I'm considering sponsoring a Chris Gregory clinic in April (14th-15th) as part of what I hope to become a annual springtime Horseshoes.com gathering, either on my farm or at a clinic in the area (so Central Texas, just north of Austin). Nice spring fling, before it gets too hot. This first year it would just be just an open clinic on Saturday, I think something very minimal as a charge like $15 ahead of time or $30 at the door on Saturday with lunch included. Then a hands on clinic on Sunday for $145 ahead of time or $165 at the door on Sunday with lunch included. With a few dozen attendees I should break even and I think it would be really fun. Maybe allow camping here (but lots of reasonable hotels close by if not) to make it very cheap, arrive Friday night, drink/bonfire hand shaking type evening to get things rolling.

Eventually (year after next maybe) I would like it to turn into a big event, maybe growing into a competition day, have lectures, have a vendor area, and such.

This is just brainstorming at this point although I have Chris holding the dates for me. I need feedback from those in the area at least concerning who would probably be interested in attending and which days you would likely be there. From others I'd like feedback concerning the possibility of trying to grow a national event from this, part social part learning. Gotta dream big.

Gimme your thoughts...

Sounds good to me. Chris is an excellent choice of clinician. What would he be covering.

flights for me are $235 or its about the same in diesel to drive, it's only 402 miles to Georgetown for me.

I usually like to go out of state to these deals cause I get to see some different folks.

I believe they still sell Crown and Dos XX's there and have access to a meat market. Will we have a place to visit with facilities to keep beer cold and cook?

I have been to resturants with these folks and a more private setting is perferred.

I'm thinking 400 miles away, although still Texas, might bring you across some new folks. Though just down the road by Texas standards.

Let me put it this way, I have four refrigerators (three inside, one on my back patio), three are dedicated to beer. So there will be cold beer storage for you if you fly and don't want to use your cooler as carry on. I would think, depending on advanced reservations, kegs of Shiner might be in order. I also have a probably d umb question for you guys and gals, anyone grill with the coke you use in your forges, does it burn hotter and sear faster? Might be really good for locking in juices. And, yes, we would be grilling, this is Texas after all.

Yea, I was thinking somewhere remote where gunfire wouldn't bring law enforcement might be a good idea. This probably won't be the most high brow event of the farrier season (don't pack your ties) but it will be fun and have one of the best educators in the business. If I do this, is there anyone else that would try to make it?

I know I don't speak for everybody but I'm sure most would agree. I like the hell out of this new owner! He speaks a language I understand, beer food and guns!

Steve, I'd love to come to this thing, if I can. I'm not exactly sure where you are but I'm about 800 miles east of Dallas.

However, I don't think grilling with coke is a good idea.

I grew up heating with coal and my grandparents always said it would poison food if cooked directly over it. I know coke is a little different but, I still wouldn't want to eat anything cooked directly over it.

As for getting a hotter fire, you can do that with charcoal and forced air. In fact that's probably cheaper than using the coke anyway.
