Hello,
I am a rather young shoer just out of college. I have a bachelors in Animal Science from Purdue University (where i focused mainly on equine and bovine). I then got a Masters in Ruminant Nutrition (where I had to take monogastric nutrition). Finally, I did my first year of veterinary school (didn't enjoy it at all) but got through my first year of anatomy and worked with the farrier fairly closely and realized i like working on feet. I have too much debt at the current moment to take off and go to farriery school. I have all my own tools. I'm looking for a farrier to shadow in the Green Bay, Wisconsin area. I am competent with handling horses and feet and can pull shoes on my own. I will be able to finish for a person once he or she shows me what they desire in their finish work. I am interested in learning exactly how to trim and maybe down the road how to tack on basic and simple shoes. No therapeutics yet...baby steps. I understand the importance of the job and the impact on the health of the animal and i understand equine hoof anatomy and am currently reading through the Principles of Horseshoeing III by Dr. Doug Butler.
If there is a farrier out there who is willing to work with me, I do work a job here in Green Bay so I cannot commit to it full time but would love to help out evenings and weekends in exchange for knowledge.
