So let's have it, Do you warranty your work? Under what conditions?

I am thinking not many would warranty their work beyond 4 weeks, but if you do, tell us why.

This is all assuming your client can find the shoe. If the shoe is truly lost, I'm hoping most of us would charge.

I've lost accounts when I couldnt come and retack that same day or within 2 days. I started thinking, since when is this an emergency that warrants same day service? I mean, maybe some cases are, but I'm not talking emergency laminitis or therapeutic packages.

10 to 15 euros if shoe is found ..

20 to 25 if new shoe is used .

Try really hard to get it back on in 3 days or less ...

I have never put a shoe on to be lost. When is a lost shoe a warranty issue? We do our best to secure the shoe as well as we can. I'm happy to charge and sugest some ways the client can change how they ride or manage the horse when it becomes expensive. Someone has to pay and its not going to be me.:D

honestly it depends on the client.
if they have multiple horses and pay well, i will cover a shoe.
if pads,packing involved i charge a little.
if its one horse very far away i will charge a travel fee or try to get someone closer to them to do it.
it all depends

I charged a lady $100 to tack a shoe on once. I was scheduled to reset the horse and another, I showed up and she said she had changed her mind and just wanted the shoe tacked back on. I was not real concerned about trying to keep the account as you may have guessed. She **** a brick when I told her how much she owed me!

Probably 70-80% of my shoeing work is on gaited horses, and most of the time when a shoe is pulled they are overdue anyway. Otherwise it either came off a horse that got turned out, (when it shouldn't have) was not ready for the weight/length they are packing or was acting up tracking sideways fighting the rider.

I very rarely have to replace shoes on the QH's or TB's I work on.

Will sometimes tack one on free if I'm in the area or something if I like the horses/people/facility, and I'm feeling charitable, but bet your ____ that its not because of some sort of "warranty".

I tell people "Nailing on a shoe that will help the horse do its job under the conditions expected is my job, keeping that shoe on is your job."

I do what I can to reduce the risk of the shoe coming off when I can, but if the horses job or soundness requires pads, extensions, etc then special care must be taken to help keep that all together. That care falls well outside of my duties.

My clients pay in advance for a guaranteed service response between regular appointments. The cost of 24 hour shoe replacement is bundled into my standard fees. So I get paid for shoe replacement every time I put shoes on a horse whether they need shoe replacement service in between or not.

If its at 4 weeks it gets reshod...if it happens more than one time at 4 weeks that's the cycle it stays on.....most of my farms are within 15 miles of each other some much closer and if I charge I had to drive out of my way and its a fuel charge..its rare I charge for it...most will put a little extra on the check without me askin...lost shoes go on within 24hrs as I have found lessons are daily and trainers do not get paid for a lesson if the student don't ride..if shoe is twisted I go asap cause shoe will have clips and step on clip.... if the horse is out of town I call folks like mcellwee and beg a favor and then try to pay them for there time ...but when dealing with good folks they refuse to take payment from me ...and I tell the trainers he is right there and prob be best if he took the horse. Because I see this being a issue...and hope I can return the favor oneday

I feel that I charge enough for the original shoeing to cover a lost shoe every once and a while. Plus most of my clients pay me for my time, they do a good job of keeping me happy.

I treat my clients the same way they treat me, warranty wise, The best ones ( nice folks, nice behaved horses, nice place to work, clean legs/feet, keep their appointments, pay promptly, etc. ) get a break on lost shoes, etc. Some others, I charge for answering the phone, LOL.
