I have to say Gary that After a weekend with "Real Men" she will be changed forever. She was so willing to learn, not even a hint of a "know it All" and I was impressed at all the **** she took. I cant believe I am saying this but Kimmie can ride with me anytime.:)

Yes changed for ever! And I realize that it is true, most Real Men never get pass the third grade mentality :D Bathroom humor, S.ex humor and lots and lots of ribbing.

And yes I did take A LOT of Sh!t I'm wiped out from it ;)

I'm glad you said that Jason as I plan on coming down in the winter and spending time with Jaye and then with you :D

I'll get you to see some liberalish points of view yet. Thanks for all the help, can't wait to see you again.

Hey Travis, are you sure about this? Sure the heck does not come across that way. Might be something you need to work on, but the first step will be admitting it.

Where I come from, you don't go into another man's house and c-r-a-p on his floor. Were I a union man, I'd opine that that man is a scab. Since I'm not a union man, and Baron doesn't allow certain terminology, I'll leave it to your imagination to determine my opinion of someone who does that.

I agree. :)

Makes no difference. If all are of the same skill, knowledge, ability, then the fees should all be comparable. I would not expect a 'whack and tack" shoer to command the same fees as someone such as yourself. And if you lose clients to the lower priced guy, so be it. If, when they come crawling back, you choose to put them back in your book, you should do so at a higher fee than what they were at when they left you.

Things are pretty competitive around here too but in all my years of providing farrier services to the public, I have never lowered my fees to meet those of another farrier.

I love you Rick Burton!!

I totally agree with you Rick, except for the crock part. :)

The rest is why I believe under cutting is an excuse and does not exist. I can give a hoot what others charge. Ultimately it is up to the horse owner, barns, trainers and Vets who they decide to use. Maybe more attention should be brought to the real problem. The ones who would drop you for a farrier who charges less. I can see someone dropping me for someone who is better and charges more, that would show me they care. :)

Very true, dear.

Like I said, no such thing as under cutting you guys dropped your prices to survive, but it is not because of this one farrier. He is doing what he has to do to survive. Not sure if dropping your price was such a good move, only time will tell.

It's not any different outside of the track, the bar is set very high up my way, a lot of farriers to compete with along with the current economical issues.

i dropped my price so i wouldnt lose over a third of my book. maybe you can afford to walk away from a 20 horse account but i cant, and with the number of new farriers comming in its gonna get worse. i droped to $85 and that as low as im gonna go. im still getting $110 off the grounds tho.

racetrack life is indeed cutthroat.

just for the record phil,if you new the farrier in question you would see hes just a scummy bastard.

That's why you need the Union down there. One price, and they can chose whoever they want; but it still will be the same price or more!!!

Your talking about price fixing, a monopoly. What happened to free enterprise? You guys work for yourself and yet you want to force everyone to work to your price?? Where is the freedom in that??
I still feel everyone who works for themselves has the right to choose what they want to charge.

Norval, she said same price or more. I do agree that we should be able to set our own prices, especially while we still can. This past weekend a very new guy stated that he got $90 ahead all day. I asked him how many did he do aday and he said, "only the ones y'all will not do, so I'm their last resort." I said good for him!

Norval, how would you feel if your boss brought in a new guy that was willing to do your job for half the money?

What I feel is this is a free country and anyone has the right to offer a service for whatever they feel they will accept. The local amish offer a reset of 4 for $20 Do you guys jump all over him?? Go tell him he has to charge more? Where is the freedom in that??

When I retire in a few years I intend to work as a handyman, doing various jobs . Do I have to go to the various trades and ask their permission??
Do I have the right to charge what I want?? Can I paint a room for some older couple and charge whatever I want or do I need to check out with a painter, get his permission, charge what he says I must??
Is this what our country is boiling down to?? I have to get permission from guys like you to work, to charge what I want??? What if someone comes to me and asks me to machine a part for him. Can`t I give him a price that suits me. Again do I need your permission.
I don`t think so.
