Josh, do you think the guys at Tractor Supply are knowledgeable about equine supplements and dressings?
They stock a bunch and let the consumer make the decisions. Best they're likely to offer is the aisle location of the product and a price check.
Don't let a little ignorance keep ya from making a buck. Particularly since in my experience, none of this stuff makes enough difference to the average horse to warrant any serious research.
If you believe you have a market, stock up and add that 20% profit to your revenue stream. Just don't forget that you'll have the tax complications of now being a service provider and a retailer.
