I asked this question a while back, maybe this will help. http://horseshoes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9957

Call your sheriff department, they can probably tell you what you need to do.

What do you mean you got shafted? did the guy ship out on you?. here in canada the stewards usually won't do much till you take the client to court and get a judgement against them. sometimes you can get the stewards to call the guy in and that might scare him into paying . once you have a judgement that trainer won't be able to run horses till the bill is paid. if you really want to **** the guy off. get the judgement but don't put it in till the day the guy has a coulpe horses in . the stewards will scratch them if he dosn't pay that day. i've seen it happen here , don't know about charlestown. there was a guy here that went back and pulled some shoes off but that landed him in the stewards office.i myself have never had to take anyone to the stewards or court. i've only been beat a coulpe times and you weren't going to get anything out of those people no matter where you took them.years ago i did take a guy into an empty stall and got my money out of him.

Since there is no Union there........Just give him a bill, and if not paid; when you do your taxes....he will be reported to the IRS as uncollected.
When he writes off on his taxes this shoeing bill as being paid, and taking a deduction of his taxes......it's sends a red flag to the IRS that someone not telling the truth on their taxes.

I do this now.....I always get paid. Because you will get audited by the IRS.

Make sure to tell him this in when you see him.

He [trainer] would be bared from racing, given a fine/days, refused the use of the track to train any horses or enter any horse into a race at the meet; they will keep his horses from leaving the track to go back to owners farms, or to run at any other racetrack in a race and all other tracks will be notified of a horse illegally coming onto those grounds; until bill is paid.
The trainer is responsible for all unpaid bills.....before any horses are allowed to leave the track for any reason; except for if a horse has to be put down due to injury or disease.
The track stewards thur the Union would notify the rightful owners that there has been a judgement against their trainer.

PS no other plater would go in a shoe for the trainer, and also no outside shoer would be allowed into the backside to shoe for the trainer, until the bill was paid.

Ive had a former client skip out on a bill. I was wondering if I could do something through the USE/USEF since she shows with them and is a member.
Good judgement comes from experience... And a lot of that comes from bad judgement

Annoy a barefooter... SHOE horses!

Maybe, and would get an 2nd opinion on this from some one who knows;

brief note to the USE/USEF and say one your member owes a shoeing bill; how do you handle this in your org. that one of your members needs to handle this promptly and in a timely manner. See if you can get results, that way.
Remember, it gets around very fast in the show world that you wrote that note about one it's members. Also, that you are serious about getting paid as well, and that you take no flack off of anyone.

i bill once a month,i got my money this morning and told the guy that he needs to find a new blacksmith.

if i would have went to the stewards they would have froze his account up there and if he won a race i would have got paid from that.
