Holy Cow! I shod this horse originally 3rd week of Feb resected the toe area, reset on 4-16 cleaned up resected area again and dressed the wall straight! (I know what you're thinking, and I wouldn't have believed it if you told me either!)

It looks like the medial side detatched and pulled in the lateral toe qtr I think that the medial side was probably tearing and exacerbating the issue.

This is what was left.

So I made this thing.

http://horseshoes.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=219&pictureid=1503

And just about ruined it putting clips on it. Here it is nailed on.

The clip over the resected area was more for protection. I was aiming for a bigger clip but they were all getting in the way of each other while drawing them at this point. I know none of them are nice, but they're all functional.

No, that toe nail isn't seated right, I fubared the nail hole drawing the clip.

Joey:

Why was that necessary to invade the wall like that?

Can you explain in detail for me?

Thanks

Good job, for the most part, on the shoe, Joey. I'll say nothing about the clips except that I like the clip pulled to protect the resected area. That seems like a good idea to me. I'll remember that.

Brian,

Do you have any follow up pictures that are at least 4 months old?

It looks like you did a really good job of getting around and above the trouble spot. I know from experience that taking out most of it and treating it does not work. I did one like it on Monday that could barely walk on one side. I had some alum heart bars that fit up nice and she was sound today when I saw her. After seeing your resection I am going back next week to have another look at my work. I have doubts now. Will look forward to pics of these feet down the road. Nice job.

Thanks guys.

and Kim, WLD gets these little narrow tracts that gan go up into the wall and will sometimes open back up into big pockets. It's impossible to A) guess how far it goes and B) effectively treat the whole area. Sometimes you get lucky, but in this case I wasn't willing to risk it. Horse was ready to founder and all of that wall was doing nothing but protecting this infection.

You could literally see into the seperation. The lateral toe quarter had a detent while the medial side was still straight, which said to me the bone was sinking, and it was no holds barred time.

If you felt the "bone was sinking" why didn't you go with a heartbar?

No? Well, you can do what us lesser farriers do and buy one.:D

Besides that, judging from what I've seen you post, I'll bet you could build one.
