We are trying a solution to the problem with the log-in not holding. You may all get logged off a few times while we test it.

seems to work on my new iMac at least. Browsed away and back beyond the 2min session limit we set and closed tab and came back beyond limit, in both cases still logged it. But I had to choose "remember me" when I first logged in. FYI. Tested in Chrome and Firefox.

We've set new session limit at 15 min to see if it helps control the cookie size issue. please let me know if you get logged out either by browsing away or closing your browser for more than 15min and then going back to site (don't log out of course).

We also changed login redirects so you stay on the page you log into. Front page for example.

Seems to hold for me.

Steve, I just opened the site ( about 8:30 AM) and was still logged in from last night at about 6:00. The longest it's held for me so far.

I think as long as you don't log out or close your browser it will hold your log in for quite awhile. I'm going to call this issue closed and move on to next stuff on my list.

I'm tired of not staying logged in, I'm tired of all the error codes, I'm tired of having to continually clean my cache and cookies to get back to this site and losing all my other log in info from my other sites..... I think I joined this site back in 2006 and have enjoyed it very much.... though I'm not a "serial" poster, I have gained much from this forum in the past..... since it has been "new and improved", all I have been is aggravated.... I'm afraid my patience is wearing very thin........... :(

on a positive note... all the new ads seem to working perfectly?? :whistle:

FYI, it will take me three years to break even, at current revenue. Ads are necessary but I can assure you I am far from making money, if that makes you feel better. I am working on everything else that is aggravating you, along with two other designers. I work on it every day, seven days a week, all day. I am trying to fix it and it is no fun for me. It is a huge complicated puzzle.

Things seem to be a lot better. I still have to log in though it does vary as to if and when. As I become more familiar with the site, getting around is becoming more routine for more. Anyway, Thanks Steve.

Nope...not anti making money at all, Steve..... sincerely hope you do well... I'm not a tech guy, never will be... the "old" system worked so well, it's bewildering on why anyone would want to fk with it???????? Newer isn't always better, just like longevity doesn't necessarily mean correctness...
thanks for putting up with my crazy rant.. (the site did hold my log in for 24 hours this time)

I had no choice, the old site cratered with a virus that couldn't be removed and unfortunately my host screwed my back up so my choice was lose 6 wks of posts or jump into my development site. So I had to rush into this a month or so premature. If these odd bugs weren't going on it would be all high fives. But nothing is ever easy any more. I'll work through them and a few months from now I hope you all will forgive the hiccups.

So the old system didn't have a viable recovery plan. What about the new one?

Here are questions I used to ask my clients when I was doing disaster recovery consulting;

If your data center is destroyed by a fire or natural disaster, do you have the ability to to recover from that situation? (This means you take copies of your data off site, if not, then your system isn't important enough to you to invest in this level of protection.)

Have you tested and verified that you can recreate your system from scratch - all new hardware and then restore the last backup to a fully working system?

How many minutes, hours, days, weeks, of data will you lose if your system is totally destroyed and you have to restore from your last backup?
