Looked over your website...

Looks like you could both use some more experience in the field
before you should be offering to train anyone...

Well it appears they both bought their credentials from that new mail order farrier accreditation scam.

Maybe you guys should re-read the web site, This course is strictly a preparatory course. It is designed to provide individuals with the foundation education " pulling shoes, cleaning a foot, dressing feet, working around the truck and preparing shoes, basic anatomy, and to clinch. Everything a farrier looks for in an apprentice!. This course is designed to HELP people get an apprenticeship. We have nothing in Ontario and are trying to show students what good horseshoeing is so when they go out and work with other farriers they have a basic knowledge of how a hoof is suppose to look like. We have a lot of un-educated farrier in our area and we are trying to make a difference in our area!

if somebody wanted to be an apprentice and didnt know these basics off their own volition they are not persuing their dream job , its iup to them to chase , not the farrier to spoon feed the spoilt idle who expect everything to be given to them

Hey Chris, I think that's a very poor attitude!! Would you be to take on someone as an apprentice that didn't know anything? Would you take the time to teach them these basic skills or would you rather hire someone that has made an effort to take this course so your more likely to take him on?

i only help those that want to persue this profession , if somebody comes to us at bthe age of 15/16 and does not know what the basics of farriery involves they are not chasing their dream . the worst thing a master farrier will encounter is having to try and retrain somebody who has been educated in school for the sole reason of finance , this is one of the major flaws in farrier training .
how many appretices have served under your tutorship and what were the problems you encountered ? i can say as many others can , once poor habits have been taught it is very difficult and time consuming to correct

Chris I totally agree with you!!! And that's why the course only teaches them the basic work and that can be tweaked by the farriers needs. They have that foundation knowledge, how do you expect someone to learn to pull and clinch and dress feet if no one is willing to take them on bc they know NOTHING. They have to start somewhere

Getting paid $100 a day is pretty good incentive to take on an apprentice.

our apprentices are paid from day one of their farrier education , i do not expect any beginner to have to pay me to learn , i will earn out of him as time goes on , its notb too do with training , its about trying to earn money for doing nothing off the backs of youngsters parents wiyh the pretence its education IMO

Chris now your saying that you would take on an apprentice that's just starting but before you said that they should already know these basic skills before they come to you! At 15, 16 these people are young and aren't 100% sure what they want to do. This course is and will be successful because there is a need for it. We are teaching them to be good at the basic skills needed to get an apprenticeship. That is what is needed in our area. We are trying to promote "education" there are few farriers here that attend clinics and conventions and new people comming into farriery are learning the wrong way to do things because there are being tought by people that aren't educated themselves. We are only trying to better our industry and here I am trying to defend it to you guys!

no Tom , the ones we take on have to be able to handle a horse , we teach them the rest , they are paid the basic minimum wage which increases with their skill levels .

I only had to read it once to see that it is mostly puffery and window dressing.
This course is strictly a preparatory course. It is designed to provide individuals with the foundation education " pulling shoes, cleaning a foot, dressing feet, working around the truck and preparing shoes, basic anatomy, and to clinch.
Why should someone choose this course over a real farrier school that is licensed and recognized by the state as a bonafide trade school and owned and directed by farriers with real credentials that were earned by passing examinations?

Everything a farrier looks for in an apprentice!.
Are you serious?
How do YOU know everything that a farrier looks for in an apprentice?
This course is designed to HELP people get an apprenticeship. We have nothing in Ontario
IMNTBCHO, you still have nothing in Ontario.

For the cost of signing up with the AAPF, all of the un-educated farriers in Ontario can BUY the exact same "accreditation" as you bought.

strikes me as though you are just another farrier who has found out that farriery is hard work and you are looking to make a quick buck teaching from the little experience that you have

Dude, I love every part of my career! I find it challenging and I'm learning every day. I'll never stop learning.
I am VERY successful! Think twice before you judge...
As for the school, it is something that there is a need for.
And as for the AAPF the people that started that are the leaders of our industry, there was a lot that went into it, and that also has a strong place in the farrier world. The AAPF's member list has grown at a crazy rate and despite what you think about it, it is a big deal.
