This is sort of old news. I bought a box of american made Hellers last week anticipating the south american ones to replace them.

As for the businesses moving out of the country, there is a very simple answer for this:

GOVERNMENT OVER-REGULATION!

If it was economically feasible to maintain a good profit margin here the company would not have moved. Companies are being regulated out. There are so many B.S. legal paperwork, permits to get, permission to be sought just to do a simple operation. Its not worth the BS to operate here. This mandatory minimum wage doesnt help either.

Im not one for forced redistribution of wealth. Thats what its all about.

George,

For someone who claims not to have interest in an organization that he's not a member of, you've done more than your share of bashing the AFA. I try very hard to be diplomatic with folks, but you've ridden this pony too far, and I grow tired.

Basically, I'm sick of your sniveling, snide innuendos and comments, and I think it's time for you to spend your efforts sweeping the doorstep of the JHU rather than s*itting on the doorstep of the AFA and, occasionally, the GPF.

Danvers,
Come on now keep it in proper context. You quote me on something that happened in the late '80s or early '90s or whenever that was. That has nothing to do with any current event(s)

As to the thing being old news, well I do try to keep up but I do occasionally miss a thing or two. This one got by me so shame on me.

Tom Trosin,
If putting America first and protecting American jobs is your idea of communism I think you need to re study different types of political ideology. As I recall it was communists that were for elimination of national borders and sovereignty in favor of the internationalism and globalism going on today.

You prove my point, George. You bring the idea up and use it to fuel a fire; then, you attempt to toss it away as having nothing to do with anything, or at least anything current.

The "proper context" is what I have stated in another thread... you are a verbal arsonist. If someone or something gets caught in the flames, you don't give a rat's as*. You're just here to throw gas and then toss the can and try to blend with the crowd. "Who, me? No, I wasn't carrying a gas can. Isn't it a shame that those people burned up..." Bulls*it! Take some responsibility for your bast*rdized rhetoric and admit that you just take pleasure in watching things burn.

Heck yes, lets all go back to the good old days of the industrial revolution or do what the 3rd world is still doing.

Pay them a pittance, work them 20 hours a day, get rid of all that silly health and safety regulation. So what if they get a little bit of asbestosis, pneumoconioses, industrial deafness or an injury because protective personal equipment costs a lot.

We can reduce the minimum age of working and get the kids back in factories and we can start to hire unskilled contractors with no permits and stop fussing all about that nonsense. And you can forget all those weekends and days off and holidays - they're just wasteful. And sick pay - well phooey - if they're sick stuff them! Maternity rights, forget that: just work them till they're ready to drop their baby and get them back to work immediately and don't forget to dock their pay whilst they're squatting wasting time having this offspring.

Now that will really help us compete on the global market.

Three cheers for deregulation

Oh wasn't that done before? Slowshoe if I was you I'd thank my lucky stars that when Union Carbide took your recommended course of action and followed where there was no regulation and lower operating costs, that they went off shore and to Bhopal and killed 18,000 there. Heck with your way of thinking they could have gone to Western Massachusetts.

Or on the otherhand as a supposed civilised developed society we can set the standard and push it round the world and wait for it to infiltrate and come all the way back.

I'm in the final phases of discussions with a call center in india about setting up a remote trimming operation. We will be needing about 50 "state coordinators" to run the following operation in each state. So send me a PM if you are interested.

The coordinator will be responsible for hiring teams of "recent immigrants" to travel to the barn where the horses are and set up the stocks and attach the "TrimTron 3000" that I have designed to the stocks and make sure the camera is focussed properly so that the remote operator in the call center in india can have a clear view of the foot and of the work that he/she is doing. We've worked with the local tech colleges robotics class on the trimtron and feel we are only months away from a viable machine.

Each remote operator will be a college graduate and will be a "certified" farrier. I'm not sure if it would be cheaper to just subcontract certifiction out to the BWFA or if I should just create my own organization to do the certification (you know "HoofSpeak Certified Practitioner" or something similar) but I think for marketing purposes getting the call center employees certified would be a very good idea.

I'm really excited about my endeavor to "globalize" hoofcare and look forward to everyones helpfull comments.

And, of course, the various and sundry unions and their graft-free leadership have played no part in the current state of affairs, right?

The lessons of history have well taught that today's superpower, whether that power be economic, political, military, is tomorrow's also-ran. Its time, or perhaps, way past time, we paid some attention to history and started making plans to better deal with the future.

George,

There's a bunch of Strasser Trimmers out of work since prosecutions in the UK. I'm sure they could be valuable on line practicioners in your global call centre

Might I suggest the call centre music could be the Anvil Chorus from Verdi's Il Trovatore

Standards are different then regulation. Your argument is full of complete BS. The modern world would not accept your description of unregulated working conditions. It just would not happen. Modern day workers would not allow it. You dont need a communist/socialist government decide for you and charge outrageous fee's to businesses jsut to operate. Your argument is completely ridiculous.

You can have a recommended level of saftey standards, and maybe even enforce them. Thats not what the problem is.

The problem is all the fee's, taxes, licenses, permits, and billions payed in extortion fee's to the bureaucracy. Wake up and smell the Earl Grey mate.
Or on the otherhand as a supposed civilised developed society we can set the standard and push it round the world and wait for it to infiltrate and come all the way back.

....right. It's completely naive to think thats going to happen. That just like bringing war to the middle east is going to give us a peaceful Utopian world. Woo hoo!

G'Day To All

Has anyone actually tried a Colombian made Mustad rasp??

If so, are they equal to the former Simonds USA made rasps??

Hey Danvers,
Relax, you're getting all worked up. I will readily admit that I'm nothing more than a practical joker and a grown up class clown.

On an open forum with the free and open exchange of ideas things will get said. Is no censorship here ;)

If your organization or any other that I might pick on is in such a shambles that they can be harmed by the likes of me then maybe everybody should wonder about them don't you think?

For the record I also compliment them when I see them do something good. Or is that never noticed?

By the way do I not pick on BWFA enough? :p

Last I heard (from my supplier, in a letter he recieved) the rasps have not hit the market yet due to a delay in getting the factory up and going in Colombia.

I talked to the mustad guys at the convention this year they guarinteed me that the rasps would be equal to the former ones made in the USA. However I will only believe them when I get one in my hands and us it.

In the mean time the Big Hoof rasp I use has went up $3 in the last 4 months due to the shortage. I looked at some of the other large rasps at the convention and did not like their size or bulk. Hope they get this figured out soon as I don't want to change rasps as I'm very comfortable with the big foot.

I sure wish Wood Miller would come out with a rasp like the big hoof.

You think? So how comes products bought from many countries are made in such conditions?

Unicef estimate that 126 million children are engaged in child labour in hazardous situations or conditions, such as working in mines, working with chemicals and pesticides in agriculture or working with dangerous machinery.

How do you think Bhopal happened?

Are low paid migrant workers BS or real ?
....right. It's completely naive to think thats going to happen.
So how comes that Companies that manufactured in Taiwan have now moved to China and since the skills level and working conditions & pay rates got better?
