For clarification, Farriers are allowed and encouraged to include a link to their own websites (personal websites to provide information about their shoeing services). The link in question was to a competitive site that was included in the user's signature line. That is spamming and has never been allowed on this site. I think this should be obvious. I chose not to ban the user as a spammer because that is my prerogative.

Is this why when I asked in another thread why I couldn't list with the ***** ?

Yes. Here is the bottom line. I try to treat everyone as I would expect to be treated. If I, as the user who has created the site in question has done, went onto a competitor's site and posted a bunch of links to my site then I would expect them to remove those links and probably ban me for spamming unless I had their permission to post the links ahead of time. Which I never gave in this case. You know I have always treated you and the user in question right and, therefore, I just need you guys to keep horseshoe.com competitor links off this site. Thanks for your understanding.

Steve,
I understand your position. I would not let another farrier hang up a business card in my shop without prior discussion ( I often encourage them to put up a card). Would I be comfortable with a client posting their service without talking to me? If I let some people, can I prohibit others? I get the dilemma.

In a public forum like this it probably helps to have a posted policy. While I respect your choice for prohibiting competitor links in signature lines, prohibiting discussion of a sponsored team name seems to be a different issue.

the name was not a link site but a team name that competed at the Classic are you going to take down all the other names too?
Dose this mean no one can say to look at another site for any info or help ?

Gary,
It's already been done. Exactly what type of insurance are you talking about?
George

George the key thing is health insurance. Short and long term disability is relatively easy to get but the big benefit a group can offer professionals is group health insurance. I have been eager for some organization to get on the health insurance bandwagon. I would in fact join any organization that had a good health program.

I have invited Rick Burton and Bruce Matthew to to join me in founding the LTLHPFSA and offering health insurance. I will be president. Rick VP. And bruce the master of arms and treasurer. If yous dues are late we will send Bruce to collect. Good choice as i would not want bruce coming after me.

I dont know if we will do certification and testing. If we do it will be the DEOA

This is a key for me as well. Medical insurance is a needed benefit....all these groups are lacking the most important benefit. George has mentioned abana, but I wonder what is the average copay, average deductible, average out of pocket maximum. I am liking for good and affordable insurance everywhere. If I could have an example, I would be grateful.

Aapf doesn't offer insurance, certification, or anything tangible. Money pit.

But Peter, for $200 you might get allowed to sit at the "cool kids" lunch table if you're real quiet and don't say anything dorky. What a value!!!! For the $1000 you can say anything you want; they just won't listen to you.

Ok guys, here's the deal. I know the Union's not for everybody, but they've had a medical insurance deal for about 6 or 7 years now. After a brain picking phone conversation between the ;:_ director and the AFA executive director, the AFA tried to follow suit and introduce a medical plan. They the had to drop it due to lack of interest.

These things are quite doable but when people fail to sign up for stuff they say they want it tends to make those who do the heavy asedlifting to produce this stuff feel like jerks for their efforts.

The ABANA deal is very affordable, covers almost everything and has minimal or no deductibles. I've had it for a couple years now and am real happy with it. Is a much better deal than I thought it would be.

I'm definately interested in the insurance. I'd join an organization that provided benefits like that.

George, I have been an active AFA member for a few years now. And I never heard of the Afa doing this. If they don't advertise and push it to the members then it goes nowhere. Its hard to join something that no one knows about .

If you were there during the term of Quinsey/Trnka that was when they tried it. They didn't get enough names to make for a decent church service so I can't blame them for not wanting to revisit that issue.

Check out www.abana.org They are a good organization. Good people, nice magazines, cheap dues. No BS internal bickering. Call their 800# and get a quote for insurance. You can have automatic deductions from your bank account if you want. Medical Plan is from Transamerica. Is best deal I've been able to find.

Yea George I remember the try by the AFA. At the time there were a lot who said they wanted it, but no takers. I just went on the ABANA site. Looks like a good insurance deal. I think one would be hard pressed to find anything cheaper.

Be wary of group plans. I was in a good one for years until the group started getting older. My premiums shot up beyond belief and I had to leave the group and get outside insurance. I have a high deductible but no copay and all medical bills paid 100%. The deductible is $2500 annually, but no copay or any other charges. I pay $370 per month for me and the wife. Don't know how this stacks up but it is not a group policy so the rates are decided by my participation and not the group. This was an expensive lesson on the longer term working of group health insurance. If I could not get outside insurance I would have been stuck in an extremely high monthly premium so consider that in your insurance decisions. This is not a well known downside to group policies.
