In reading the "Breaking News" from AFA HQ it appears that walt has managed to place one of his cronies in the postion of ED (executive director )
Apparently you either need better reading glasses or to improve you ability to read for content in context. To wit: There is NO one at this time, taking over the ED position. In point of fact, the position has not yet even been posted as open/available. What is true, is that a consultant has been hired. This is far different than what you allege. And, you do of course have some verifiable proof that this consultant is a cronie of Walt, right?
so nothing has changed secretary taylor is once again running the AFA so we can expect the same brand of nasty underhand political manuevering that has become a trade mark of the AFA worldwide.
The names have changed and nothing else
You again make a pathetic attempt to disrespect the AFA, its officers and membership. Again you fail, again you are hoist by your own petard. Would somebody please light a match and put this poor fool out of his misery?

Nope. It's The Guild's 4 year timeline. So, they have to wait untill they are ready for me. :)

I heard that this guy was some sort of strategic planning consultant. Maybe he's just helping the AFA do a little strategic planning?

RE:Other AFA issues 11 Apr 2006 14:41 #154

I have been on vacation so I am just now reading all of this stuff. I had hoped we had put this issue to bed, but obviously we have not.
tbloomer wrote:
I believe that the president and/or the executive committee have the authority to select whomever they want to serve as committee chairpersons on most committees ....... Why would you deny the leadership the ability to choose their team members?
The President is in fact delegated the authority to recommend committee chairmen to the BOD. The BOD is solely granted the authority to appoint and that is for a term of two years. The Presidents interaction with committees is limited to an advisory ex-officio membership that is non-voting. The ED enjoys the same role. The Vice-President is responsible for coordinating the activities of the committees. The EC has no role in the function and operations of committees.tbloomer wrote:
The AFA lacks substance and continuity between administrations. That has been the problem all along. Without a strategic plan to follow, there is no road map for the next administration to follow.
I have seen a plan circulated. Bryan had a basic strategic plan, I asked for and received a copy. The reason that the ED position was created was to reduce the transition disruptions to the absolute minimum possible and to help incoming administrations conduct the business of the AFA smoothly.

There can be no continuity if an administration comes in slash and burn policy. So far the symptoms that we are seeing look a lot like Mr. Ferguson is willing to sacrifice a lot of the AFA's potential in order to secure himself from political opposition. I hope that what I am seeing and hearing is wrong.

Oh and Tom, you should call Bryan and continue your research. Perhaps you can get him to give you the timeline starting from when and from whom he heard the first statements about Mr. Ferguson's promise fire him to when he interviewed and the accepted his new position and why he is tired of fighting every step of the way. But if you do you might once again have to retract your inaccurate and politically skewed ranting.

Seems to me that you are making up this slash and burn story. Nobody was slashed, burned, fired, or asked to leave. Interesting how you twisted that into Mr. Ferguson sacrificing the AFA potential.

Ron, suffice it to say that I have better information than you do. That information did not come from sources in the AFA. Everybody has baggage and dirty laundry that follows them around.

Franky,
The problem with quoting Zimmerman and Simon is that what they say is not true. The tunes are great, they sold alot of disks, but they're ******.
One's name does matter, one's age matters more, the midwest is not a country, and only self loathing vandels write on subway walls.
My name is as stated so, in the words of John Lennon, "you know my name, look up the number".

RE:Other AFA issues 12 Apr 2006 12:28 #162

I'm too am tired of reading all of the innuendos and fairy tales. Let's get the facts straight.

Here's the first.

Strategic Plan - When I arrived at the AFA no such plan existed. I asked and asked for the EC and Board to develop such a plan. No movement was taken. Finally, in the fall of 2004, the EC suggested that I develop a DRAFT of a plan. I went back to plans that I had created while president of the Kentucky Industrial Development Council (an association of economic developers in Kentucky) and president of the Greene County Partnership (a chamber of commerce / economic development corporation in Tennessee). Using templates from those organizations, I drafted a Strategic Plan for the AFA. I've attached it here for your review.

I gave this Plan to the EC. Walt Taylor immediately recognized that the ED should not be creating a Plan for the entire AFA. I agree and agreed. However, if the volunteers don't want to write it, someone had to get the ball rolling. I then submitted the DRAFT Strategic Plan to the AFA Board of Directors at their 2005 Annual Meeting in Chattanooga, TN. I asked for response. None was received. Nothing. I was overwhelmed.

The EC and I had additional discussions about the Plan throughout the summer of 2005. It was recommended that I again present the DRAFT plan to the Board at their 2005 Mid-Year Meeting in Omaha, NE. Again, the plan was submitted to the Board. This time I heard from a handful (less than 6 Board members). No changes were ever recommended.

Here's the DRAFT plan. You deal with it as you please.

Bryan

American Farrier's Association
Strategic Plan – DRAFT
(presented to AFA Board of Directors on February 23, 2005)

Strategic Planning – An Overview

Simply put, strategic planning determines where an organization is going over the next year or more, how it's going to get there and how it'll know if it got there or not. The focus of a strategic plan is usually on the entire organization, while the focus of a business plan is usually on a particular product, service or program.
There are a variety of perspectives, models and approaches used in strategic planning. The way that a strategic plan is developed depends on the nature of the organization's leadership, culture of the organization, complexity of the organization's environment, size of the organization, expertise of planners, etc. For example, there are a variety of strategic planning models, including goals-based, issues-based, organic, scenario (some would assert that scenario planning is more a technique than model), etc. Goals-based planning is probably the most common and starts with focus on the organization's mission (and vision and/or values), goals to work toward the mission, strategies to achieve the goals, and action planning (who will do what and by when). Issues-based strategic planning often starts by examining issues facing the organization, strategies to address those issues, and action plans. Organic strategic planning might start by articulating the organization's vision and values and then action plans to achieve the vision while adhering to those values. Some planners prefer a particular approach to planning, eg, appreciative inquiry. Some plans are scoped to one year, many to three years, and some to five to ten years into the future. Some plans include only top-level information and no action plans. Some plans are five to eight pages long, while others can be considerably longer.
Quite often, an organization's strategic planners already know much of what will go into a strategic plan (this is true for business planning, too). However, development of the strategic plan greatly helps to clarify the organization's plans and ensure that key leaders are all "on the same script". Far more important than the strategic plan do***ent, is the strategic planning process itself.

The information that follows was created as a “starting point” by the American Farrier's Association Executive Committee and Executive Director. By no means should it be considered a “finished” do***ent. Many of the tactics that have been stated have yet to be approved as the direction that the AFA Committees want to take, or that the Board of Directors want to move.

We challenge you to review the do***ent and carefully consider each Goal, Strategy, and Tactic. From here we would like to have direct input from every member of the Board of Directors and Committee Chair. Ideally, a final do***ent would be available for acceptance and distribution within the next 6 – 12 months.

I'm happy that Bryan has found himself a nice job. I would have been just as happy for him if he had stayed with the AFA. However, I do not totally accept his story, your story, or Dave's story as the whole truth and nothing but.

Your posts on the subject have sought to blame Dave Ferguson alone for forcing Bryan's resignation. Although you may be satisfied with that "truth," I do not attribute that much power to Dave. NOR do I believe that Bryan was so weak that he allowed himself to be forced out of his job by the "prospect" of Dave's election.

One of MY facts that I discovered is that Bryan Quinsey is the kind of guy that ALWAYS has several irons in the fire. That is part and parcel to being successful in business. I respect him for keeping on top of his game. I do not hate Dave Ferguson as the guy that made him quit his job. That Dave supplied him with some motivation to move on is very believable. However I do not see a villain at work here on either side.

I’ve heard your story about why you hate Dave. I’ve heard Dave’s story about why you hate Dave. Ultimately I don’t see either of you as villains in the situation. When big egos collide it’s never pretty. I’ve locked horns with Dave on several occasions. The more I do it, the better I like him. I like you almost as much as I do Dave. You’re growing on me a little every time we argue. I guess you guys haven’t argued enough yet to really like each other. Y’all have a lot of common ground . . . neither of you would admit that. I find the whole situation amusing.

Here's the deal. I'm trying to keep it simple.
