George, I stopped reading after this quote from the article...

"The experience, he said, is one of the reasons he would like to see a law passed that would allow immigrants in this country to illegally work towards becoming legal without leaving, as he did when he was an undocumented worker in Canada."

Let's break this down and clarify for better comprehension.

... He wants a law (that which defines what is and is not legal)...

...that allows immigrants in this country (they are not immigrants, they are illegal trespassers on US sovereign soil)...

...to illegally work (a law that's allows you to break the law?!?)...

...towards becoming legal (???) without leaving. (!!!???!!!)

So... he wants a law that allows a person to break the law, without consequences (leaving/deportation) and said person to continue breaking the law until such time that what they are doing is no longer illegal.

Have I got that bunch of nonsense-packed rhetoric right?

Given this same train of logic, I want a law that makes it legal for me to rob banks, without consequence, until I have enough money that I no longer need to rob banks.

Oh, and you can't call me a bank robber (illegal alien) while I'm doing it. I'm an undocumented funds withdrawal client.

Lord help us.

Giving money and power to government is like giving whiskey and car keys to teenage boys.

Cheers,
Mark

The kick in the @ss would be that after they're not doing anything illigal anymore, they'll be breaking the law.:D

It would be different if Canada were a real country.

Great point Mark. An analogy that may be nearer and dearer to a political professional's heart, would be of a tax evader, or as they could be called "an ungarnished wage earner".

Fran and the govenor are probably good friends, they don't mind doing things that are illegal.

The whole immigration debate confuses me. man makes these imaginary lines everywhere, designed to keep people apart. by some chance someone happened to be born on some other area of land. people should have the opportunity to move about freely to seek opportunity and better their lives.

I was fortunate I guess to be born in a place filled with opportunity. some are not Born in such a place and I do not feel threatened by those seeking opportunity.

Please dont tell me that they should go through the 'legal process' of coming here for opportunity, because unless you are a native american your forefathers came here and unless they came in the last 20 years did not have to jump through 1/10th of the hoops or spend the ten grand+ to get here. It was a very easy process.

what about them leeching off the system? Gov should not offer welfare like it does in the first place. no I dont believe they should receive money from gov. But I bet there are plenty of americans (prob many, many times more than immigrants) that receive benifits and never have paid taxes or do anything productive.

In conclusion I dont see any mans so called legal state as an indicator of worth or character.

I occasionally drive over the speed limit or fail to come to a complete stop. If I get caught, I just quietly accept the penalty and go on. I don't claim the speed limit was discriminatory or unnecessary and I should be forgiven. I have also worked illegally in Canada when it was for a few days and I didn't care to hassle with the paperwork to get the work permit. For longer periods, I did the proper paperwork. If I'd been caught working, I'd have accepted deportation and not claimed that since I was already there I should be allowed to stay.

Oh, Canada?
Ya, it's so great that it would deny a poor future Governor, just wanting to work hard for a better life, from south of it's boarder, to enter their race tracks.

Always wanting to be an answer to the problem, I have produced a son, who is a fine Farrier like Lincoln Chafee, however with a different view on illegal immigration, that is now attending the U.S. Boarder Patrol Academy.

LOL. Good one Bill. I'm against illegal immigration, but if we substitute USA for Canada in your statement it lends an interesting perspective to the problem.

There's probably a good argument for changing immigration policy. In the meantime, why should those breaking the law get to jump in line ahead of those who are following the rules?

I know somebody who recently married a Mexican gal. They jumped through the hoops to get her in the country legally. Why should invaders be rewarded by being allowed to skip that process?

As to being able to move freely, as long as we have the concept of private property or nations, there will be borders that you can't cross without permission. I have "No Trespassing" signs on the border of my property and we have them on the border of our country. You need permission to cross those borders.

I must then assume that I can freely seek opportunity and betterment in your house or back yard. Please leave the doors unlocked to keep the imaginary lines erased.
