I see a system such as the U.K.'s here soon. From my understanding the law is already written, just needs to be signed. There was no "grandfather" rights, rather if you could prove 5 years of experience or more, you took a test, was then set into the program. At the completion of the program you took the Certification test - Theory and Practical.

I'm not for Government regulation, but it is coming here. I went through the program, and after I am glad I did. I now wish I had done an apprenticeship as I see the value of it. Coming from the States, I don't ever see it happening there. Too big of a country, could never get enough farriers or professionals to get any kind of a national standard set (as pointed out by Tom).

one thing i will never understand , the americans want to impose their rules , regulations and their lifestyle upon the rest of the world but a few people who claim to be expert at putting horseshoes on oppose any form of regulation , it beggars believe at these double standards

hey matt, it should be pointed out that when registration was being born in england it was to protect certain farriers businesses and egos ,and that is what was so annoying to a lot of folk , not the fact that they had to be examined and registered , because the vast majority were actually for it

That's a hack of a generalization. As an American, I prefer to go my own way and leave others to do the same.

But speaking of double standards, do you want to be regulated or not? If you do, there's likely lots of people and governments just chomping at the bit to regulate you.

i work under both ,regulated and unregulated countries, and by far the higher standards of workmanship and business protocol are conducted in the regulated ones

In most states/counties building contractors are licensed. In my state it's done by county. Electricians are not licensed but contractors are.

I'm not an expert on those specific laws but lots of people pay individuals to do electrical work for them and, as far as I know, it's legal. It's certainly legal to do your own electrical work.

The important point is that regulation of building contractors, in theory, is to restrain one person from causing harm to another.

BTW, the leading cause of electrical fires is worn components (high resistance connections and NOT improper wireing.
