Here is a perfect example of the "Simpletons" of the world.
Mom on cell phone watching her kid walk around, and he's wondering "why me?"

Yeah for the Animal Rights folks. Give me a break.

Animals are not here for us to beat them and make them run around in a circle. Unfortunately, I probably won't see the end of it in my lifetime.

Beating them with a whip is the least of the issues with the racing industry.

I for one, would be happy to see horse racing ended for ever.

And yes I'm a tree hugger.

What are animals here for?

And yes I'm a tree hugger.
A number of years ago (5'ish) when there was an avian flue outbreak in the lower mainland,
The Gov. culled 10's of thousands of chickens,
and even the back yard small 3 hen farmers had their flock culled.

at the time I asked

"Where are all the Chicken Huggers"

Ha,

Some you hug, some you sit under and some you admire from a distance :)

We have a lot of Osage trees growing on the property, they are beautiful. I understand the Indians used them for many things. What I don't get is the fruit they bear? The squirrels like it, the horses nibble on it, but I tasted them and blech!

Well that is a loaded question and I'll leave it for an in person discussion.

But I can tell you they are not here to Race for our pleasure, Big Lick for our pleasure, Perform in Zoos and a host of other things.

They should be treated with respect whether they are a food source, a pet or a means to perform a job.

If horse racing could be done with no excess going to slaughter, no racing when they are 2, no locking them in stalls forever, etc. It would be a different story.

Humans are greedy b@st@rds and I could go on and on. It's a pipe dream but let the cr@p that keeps happening keep getting published and then see what the AR people do.

I do not want an end to owning pets, nor do I forsee the world becoming vegetarians. But things could change for the better. Thats all I wish for.

For animals AND humans.

Says who????
They should be treated with respect whether they are a food source, a pet or a means to perform a job.
Define, in context, 'respect'
If horse racing could be done with no excess going to slaughter, no racing when they are 2, no locking them in stalls forever, etc. It would be a different story.

Actually, we meat eaters are simply evolved vegans. For what is meat anyway? ;)

I am a confirmed vegatarian - I eat plenty of processed hay, grass, grains, all have been processed to become a cow, pig, deer, elk, goat, sheep, etc. What is meat anyway but processed veggies!!!

regarding the killer sale's(not that im advocating it) what do you do with a horse that after its career is just too mean, nasty, simple to be a riding horse, pet, field ornament? i shoe a 3year old filly that had her eye knocked out and this this is the meanest, nastiest horse ive ever been around, meaner than any stud or rouge ive came across. and ive come across some mean studs,
My Boy Adam to name one, anyone familiar with wva breeding in the past 15 years has heard of him. now when this filly is done racing what are you to do with her? she will never be a kids riding horse, hell i doubt she could eb a riding horse period. you cant give her a shot, what the hell are they gonna do if she ever breaks down on the track? she is moody,if she were human she would be bipolar for sure. can be fine one min and the next trying to tear the screen down to get to a horse waling past down the shed.

About time too!

Here there's tight regulation and strict enforcement.

Whips have to be shock absorbing.

Jockeys have to use them only for safety, correction and encouragement and not for coersion.

They have to give the horse time to respond to the whip aid and not continue to beat it because they're rubbish riders and poorly trained horses.

http://www.britishhorseracing.com/inside_horseracing/about/whatwedo/disciplinary/whipuse.asp

At the end of the day horse racing as plenty to contend with without incurring hostility amongst the general populace. You don't need to whip a horse to win a race.

My father sacked jockeys and never used them again for overuse of the whip and when I had my race trainers licence I did the same. It's not necessary.

that whole aircush whip craze started over across the pond with the steeplechase jocks, and tree huggers will be pleased that some tracks have allready outlawed "american flat" type whips. i see alot of riders out west riding with aircush whips.

when i was light enough to still gallop in the mornings to me the stick was a attention getter, horse loses focus bust em,or is getting out id bust em on the approriate side. good rider usualy dosnt turn his/her stick till that last 440yrds from the top of the lane to the wire. unless your going 4 1/2 then its a whole 'nother story.

Granted that in every discipline involveing animals, there are bad apples that make everyone else look bad too. Racing , TWH's, rodeo and a few other disciplines need to look in the mirror, as do some circus people and even the activitis's themselves. After they have taken control over some animals they are still just as bad as before or worst!? The very first P.E.T.A. was the Professional Elephant Trainers Assn. Then the Wackos took the letters and turned it into a hate group, and they are guilt of terrorist activities in the past themselves? I have no problem with tree huggers as long as they are looking out for trees! But when my living is involved with the care of animals and some lonely old lady that has a ragged old dog as the only animal she has ever cared for ,comes out as an expert on animal care and feels we shouldn't be allowed to own, train, exhibit, show or compete, then I have a big problem with my rights being stomped on! Sure the world is a differant and changeing place but some of the simple pleasures of life are being taken from us and our childrens children will miss out on so much simple pleasure!
