First of all farrier licensing is here, just not the way everybody perceives it, so get over it all ready.
Second to the point that Maryland has entered the real world where everybody has to get insured yippie skip, they are only about two and a half decades behind California, where you have to have a license, liability, work mans comp, care custody and control, and I know I am forgetting a couple of others. Add to that you need to have your license and a workers rights notices (which is approximately 4x8 feet in english and spanish) conspicuously placed in your stable.
Farriers are licensed; and have been on racetracks since the 1800's and at one time in IL state; but not in the back yards here today were I come from.
Amish shoe racehorses here without a license [for they are exempt] and most here go to 2+ weeks trimming/shoeing school, and go out and shoe.
Plus, in Maryland; you only need a license and to be certified to "teach" riding lessons/boarding/sales only. Only need "advanced" homeowners insurance, that's all.
There is still no liability, workmans comp, care, custody, and control needed on the farms, because they passed that "enter and ride at your own risk" law.
Just needed for the training facility and at the racetrack.
