Local news just announced that the Kentucky senate nixed the proposal to install video slots at Kentucky Horse Racing facilities.

Another American industry, soon to bite the dust, courtesy our political leaders.

Impact on the horse industry in Kentucky... snake eyes.

Cheers,
Mark

I was thinking more like cr-aps. :(

On the other hand, it is my understanding that in Tennessee it is now legal to carry concealed firearms in bars and saloons.

I know how you feel… here in Birmingham we have a live greyhound and horse racing track well it was a live horseracing. After a few years it went belly up now they do greyhound and simulcast horseracing. The owner of this multi million dollar facility said if they will let him put in video gamming he would bring back horseracing. Being in the bible belt you imagine how that went over now they have all the stables and everything. We also have run down training facilities and farms that are no longer in service. The city is so broke they are always fighting on the news over bingo halls and get this they are now trying to charge people that are on a septic tank sewer fees. The church crowds that vote the video gamming down will rent a charter bus and have a big trip over to Mississippi casinos and have a big time…..rolling eyes and peed off sorry Mark I feel your pain and I rant weekly about it….I listen to talk radio and find myself mad by 11am everyday..

by the way ..Tom S Radio is not the only place i get my news...i know you feel they are a bit bias deppending on the station..lol

Around here, I hear,
if you have a stream running through your property
and that is the case with many,
and that is your water source,
you are charged a water licence fee.

What is Next:
"Oh, mister tax man sir I'm so sorry that I have natural trees growing on my property,
but I can't afford the tax on them
so I'll cut them down . . .
. . . What do you mean I need an expensive permit to cut them down."

Brad that is called stumpage. Try to make a cent off of your lumber and an assessed fee is required.

Depends on the state laws. In Oregon we get severely reduced property tax rates for taking care of our trees (logging, growing, keeping it healthy) if zoned Woodland Resource. My taxes are embarrassingly low. I can log it and sell the trees if I want. But, I must replant and keep the forest healthy. A healthy forest needs to be logged (or burned, but we won't talk about that).

I don't know about TN but it is legal in GA as long as you have a permit and the business makes less than 90% of it's profit from alcohol sales.

There is also an open carry law on the table in GA, where anyone can carry anywhere as long as it's holstered and in plain site.

With all due respect of course Mark, what would inevitably kill racing would be if the government restricted the simulcast signals the tracks send out, not weather or not a track gets slots. While I will agree that they help, by the time each state get their respective take out from each facility and by the time the tracks maintain them what actually trickles down to the horseman is not as much as it should be.

I think I can say this and not bite the hand that provided for my family for so many years; I view it as karmatic in a sense, that until the racing industry starts taking it's breeding practices, trainer licensing, and medication issues seriously, they will never get (nor do they deserve) help from outside gaming revenue.

Here in ontario canada we get 10% of the slot revenue for purses and the hosting track gets 10%. in the begining this was huge and our purses went through the roof now however in fort erie where i am since we first had slots ten years ago there has been a huge casino in niagara falls ontario open ,then a huge casino in niagara falls new york open a casino in buffalo and erie PA. they banned smoking in casino's in canada the money went to almost par and now you need a rassport to cross the peace bridge. so our slot revenue has droped dramatically. we are trying to get the government to give a larger % of the slots or we are facing closing the track.

I think the available evidence is to the contrary.
