"Responsible Thoroughbred racing is a wonderful sport."
When thoroughbred racing professionally is done well; though proper care, training, grooming, shod properly, vetted properly, etc.; then this is very very humane sport.
These horses are best kept horses in the world, besides the top showhorses in the world.
I have watched this show, and I am upset that they would show all these racehorses falling over and over again for ratings. For these famous jockeys to air all their falls on national TV is a disgrace.
They do not show the best of racing, DO THEY!!!!!
Yes, even the best horses will fall and get injured, including even the worse and rarest of break-downs (Barbarro, Eight Belles); but not like this!!!! Showing the same horse over and over again falling for ratings.
Yes, this is one of the most dangerous jobs for a jockey, and accidents do happen; but we do not need to glorify this.
We have some of the best and brightest people in this business who genuinely CARE about the horses, their safety, and the safety of everyone in the horse industry from the breeding farms to the trainers, managers, to the grooms, platers, vets, hotwalkers, ect.
Horseracing runs our economy!!! and is over a 250+ billion in agriculture [farmers for hay/straw/grain], veteranian [medical side] vet techs, breeding [stud fees, broodmares and foal care], breaking & training, barn managers & trainers, gallopers, jockeys, grooms & hotwalkers, running the racetracks, shoers, and the steel industry to make the shoes, farrier retail businesses and steel/aluminum distributers [Victory, St. Croix, ect.], carpentry [building barns, designs, ect.], electrical, making of the driveways/roads ect. ect.
Equine revenue that takes care of the running of our country!!!
Animal Planet should show how the equine community effects everyone lives directly and indirectly in this economy; and also both the good and not so good part of racing.
