When you say poor do you mean lazy or circumstances beyond a person's control. Each and everyone of us that are fortunate to have our health, located where the economy is good, have skills and/or good education and training should consider ourselves very blessed. Even with a great education, training, skills and good location we are all a health issue away from poverty. Do we turn a blind eye and leave these people behind to fend for themselves? Is it easier on everyone to think the only poor people in this country are those who are not willing to work? I see good hard working people everyday dealing with major health issues, some with more than one family member needing costly meds and medical care, stressed with increased grocery and fuel cost. People that may have to give up every hobby and luxury just to save for this winters oil to stay warm and make the mortgage or rent payments. I'm a staunch republican, but I have to be honest. I get the feeling republican leadership do not think we have poverty in this country. Democrats seem like they at least recognize it does exist. Who would of thought gas going up a few bucks per gallon would cause so much havoc. Have you noticed everything has gone up in price to pass on the increase. If this keeps up the rich will get richer and the poor will get poorer.

We are simply getting more and more soft. Why leave a country that harbors terrorist? These people, these extremist's, will not give up. We will always be over there keeping these evil people under control (if we can even call it that). It seems like most folks would be okay with just allowing the enemy to come over here and cater to them. Putting in foot baths in schools for muslim students to pray or in airports so the taxi cab drivers can come and use them. We're too worried about what other people in this world think. When we should in fact be worried about what citizens of this country feel.
We need to bring the troops home because we have no business being there. Iraq is not our problem and not our war. It does not settle to well with many Americans that our men and women are dying for something that is not a threat to our country. Terrorism has existed for generations and was at its worse back in the 70's. Why didn't past Presidents declare war back then on Iran, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Kuwait? Why didn't George Bush Sr. go into Bosnia, I will tell you why, because he has some sense. I think many would have supported that effort considering the inhumane ethnic cleansing that occurred over there. He was embarrassed by his son's decision to go into Iraq. Why didn't Clinton declare war on Afghanistan? During his time in office they had plenty of good intel on a country harboring terrorist. Europe would have welcomed our aid back then. They suffered many acts of terrorism. Clinton had sense and realised war is not the answer, it never is.
Why was Airport Security so lax pre 911, anyone could board a plain with just about anything? Being a former military person, I could never figure out why Airports were so lax. Beefing up security after the fact is just like adding a stop sign at a dangerous intersection only after someone gets killed, but could have been prevented if the people in charge were listening to suggestions from those who saw the need for one.
You say it seems like some would be OK with allowing the enemy to come over here. What enemy? Who is the enemy? That line has been used over and over again to sway the American public in supporting going to war. Remember the original reason for going to war was to seize the weapons of mass destruction. To date no such weapons have been found and now the reason is to seek out and destroy the enemy because they are out to get us. Even Bush admits we had poor intel on the weapons of mass destruction why would he have good intel on terrorism. All I see is alarmist, doomsayers and panic. What about his personal agenda with the threat made to his father? Is it reasonable for our troops to die for his personal vendetta. Well if that is the case then lets get the hell out of there. What is going on for crying out loud? How many lies are the American people going to listen to. Now President Bush doesn't see any problems with the economy or raising fuel cost, people loosing their homes, loosing jobs, loosing their retirement. We are doing more harm to this country internal than any terrorist can do, that is for sure. If thing continue down this path we may end up with our own civil war.
I voted for Bush both times, believed everything he said, supported the war effort and will always support out troops. Only time will tell if what we are doing is right or wrong. I honestly do not know anymore and I know many good Americans who feel the same way.
Sorry to ramble, I usually stay out of politics and religion discussions. I mean no disrespect. Just throwing out some of the views I have on our current state of affairs in this country.
