Nice, clean look. I look forward to seeing the new members section once it's complete.

Might I suggest that the publications area also offer a library of "Educational Articles" intended for review by the horse owning public and farriery customers.

Respectfully,

Mark

Mark,

The AFA web site is a work in progress. I think you will see improvments and expansions in it as we go. If you have suggestions, contact Tom Stovall or April Raine.

Yes sir, it is understood that the improvements are still in progress. The esthetics are attractively appropriate and the navigation certainly has a more modern feel. I'll forward any suggestions I may have to Tom or April as you've suggested.

I have good hope that improvements in content will eventually manifest.

Many farriers, like most working men and women, may be variously constrained in their ability to travel extensively to clinics, conventions and other AFA opportunities. Given such constraints, the website is, for many, a critical and perhaps singular benefit of association membership.

It is noteworthy that the association has chosen to invest in that resource and my sincere hope that leadership continues to recognize the educational and communication opportunities the website can provide to its membership and the horse owning public.

Best Regards,

The website looks FABULOUS!!!!! It is a refreshing example of just how good the AFA can look and feel to the horse-owning public and aspiring farriers. I truly hope that it serves to boost the morale of all AFA members.

Great job April!

Below is the letter that went out to every AFA member with an email address on file with the office today. It went out over my signature and if anyone has any problems with the content of AFA's website, the buck stops with me. I asked for autonomy, I got it - but along with autonomy comes responsibility, so whatever happens on my watch as committee chairman - good or bad - is my responsibility. April Raine did the heavy lifting and did a helluva job, but, make no mistake, I am responsible for the AFA website.

All praise goes to Ms. Raine; please direct any questions, comments, or criticism to me. Letter follows:

To Whom It May Concern:

As an AFA member, you probably know we’ve had some serious problems with the AFA website. As chairman of the Website Committee, the responsibility for those problems is mine - not the AFA’s officers, Board of Directors, office help, or any other members - mine. If anyone has any criticism for the site’s being down for a while, please direct it to me because it was my responsibility to keep it functional and online and I didn’t get it done.

Thankfully, the AFA has been blessed with some tremendous technical and artistic talent in the person of April Raine and she has pulled our fat out of the fire. Ms. Raine has done a tremendous job with the AFA’s website. She has taken a disorganized, unappealing, dysfunctional, eyesore and transformed it into a functional thing of beauty and both the AFA and I are in her debt.

The AFA’s website is an ongoing work in progress and will probably remain so as long as it exists. In the months and years to come, the website will be expanded to include a database of educational how-to and technical articles, owner/farrier interaction, expanded efforts to inform the public of the AFA’s certification programs, reportage of farrier-related news and events, AFA internal affairs, editorial comment, and possibly even a real time chat section.

Please take a moment to visit the new AFA website at http://www.americanfarriers.org or through our new address at http://www.theamericanfarriers.com. I believe you’ll appreciate the changes and like the new look and I welcome your comments, suggestions, and criticism.

Mr. Stovall-

I have always enjoyed reading your posts, even the ones where you and I have crossed swords. You are a treasure. Thank you for stepping up and lending us some of your talent.

I think the new site is great, I was thrilled when I signed on and saw it. I found a farrier to apprentice with in northeast and couldn't be happier to be out of the hot 100 degree Texas heat. I really appreciate the open debates and good farrier exchanges on horseshoes I read it all the time but am usually to whooped at the end of the day to comment, but this AFA NON-MEMBER whining abt the new AFA site really got me going ... Here, I am working my guts out to evetually get certified and this NON-MEMBER Ray Steels has nothing to do but whine like a spoiled brat about pressing a few extra keys, I guess he's not a farrier. Ray get a life or get over it. If you have time to whine about the AFAs site, well you just have tooo much time on your hands.

Sarah,
Nice to be out of that Texas heat isn't it. Don't get too worked up about the AFA criticism from Ray. Years ago they messed up his breakfast and he hasn't gotten over it yet:) Keep after your certification. I got my CJF in 1984.

Sarah and Jim,

who do you think will be using the Find a farrier search on the AFA site...? my guess is that it will be non members , most likely as in horse owners. My post was to point out a difference and possible problem from the previous site.

Jim Bondra

please point out where I criticzed the AFA in my post about the web site.

That I know of the members of the AFA are involved in shoeing horses, not making breakfast, lunch or snacks etc..

If you use your forge for food prep perhaps you missed your calling or are you trying to say something else?
