Increasing Dispensing Speed

Hello,
I love the products however I often times wish the stuff came with a helper.
I always work by myself and applying the product can often times become challenging.
My Question is Vettec looking at the ergonimics of the one man farrier who uses the products?
When I use the pour in pads, I wish the stuff would dispense faster and easier.
These are just suggestions. Any tips would be appreciated.
Thank you

Re: Increasing Dispensing Speed

What problems are you having?
I have not found any of the products that I could not use by myself as long as the horse will stand quietly.

Anytime you can go to a clinic that Tab Pigg is putting on using the Vettec products will be time well spent. I think Vettec has come up with more uses and applications than most Farriers ever thought about. But the horse needs to stand quietly to get the best results.

I use a lot of the equi-pak and have not had any problems with it. The equi-build doesn't set as fast and you will have to keep the foot up longer. In using the "build" I hold the foot up and palpate the foam board with my fingers until I see it setting up and then duct tape across the back of the foot and set it down. I usually lose a portion of the product about the size of my thumb. And when taking off the foam board have noticed that when the foot loaded on top of the foam it pushed out some of the product that was not fully set leaving a slightly concaved area about the thickness of the foam board. To get the build flush with the ground level I have to hold the foot up for several minutes.

With the "pak", due to its setting time, I can manipulate it better allowing me to be more creative with its applications.

Use two guns, keep extra mixing tips within reach, peel the of the paper on the foam boards back so you can get it off, keep duct tape within reach (tear off a couple of pieces about 18" long and stick them to your apron leg or keep the roll in your box with the corner turned up), make sure you leave a place to get the mixing tip into in order to dispense the product, make sure the foot is clean or reasonably clear of debris, use the mesh or some other material that will perform in a like manner, deep seat the shoe to allow the product to set under the edge, and on and on.

If you are having specific problems list them and I bet someone here can walk you thru them.

Hope this helps

Re: Increasing Dispensing Speed

Maryland cannot be as cold as New England, but I wonder if you have a harder time dispensing in the winter? I have several methods of warming the urethane before applying, a bucket of warm water (leave the cartrige in the unopened plastic wrapping , set on the dash bord with the defroster on, and (my personal favorite) microwaving for about 20 seconds (for one full tube). I don't know if Vettec recommends this, but I have a microwave dedicated for hoof products (no food) and it really seems to work well.

Re: Increasing Dispensing Speed

I use the dashboard and defroster method on those, very few, cold days down here.

Re: Increasing Dispensing Speed

Thanks for the great tips. I think I need to warm the stuff up better before using. I was just thinking that it might be nice to have a shorter and bigger diameter tip that would help because it would come out faster? I like the microwave idea because a alot of times I'm not expecting to use the product.
Take care fellas. Thanks again and talk to you soon.
