My horse from Forida is tripping
I'll try to keep this short. I got my boy approximately one year ago. He's from Florida and had lived there all of his 9 years. He's a TWH. About one month after I bought him and on the same day he was shod, he began to stumble and trip. The vet radiographed his right front b/c that seems to be where the trouble was. There were some mild check ligament abnormalities. I rehabbed as prescribed and very slowly got him back to work. That brought me to our terrible winter (I live in Philadelphia). We had one good ride in the first fluffy snow storm. Otherwise he tripped quite a bit. I tried to keep him on decent footing. I thought it was the weather. He continued to trip. We have almost gone down a number of times. We went to New Bolton and had a lameness eval. Doc didn't see anything wrong except some weakness in his left hind. At first the Doc thought he was foot sore. He checked him with hood testers with no reaction from Dude. He switched his diagnosis to left stifle, back and front feet. His left front was radiographed again and the Doc only saw a tiny amount of arthritis in the area of the coffiin bone. Dude is now on cosequin. Although the Doc didn't recommend it. After a long time of riding him in a bareback pad and BM saddle, he seems better but he still trips. He seems to stub his toe on the right. The last time he was shoed the farrier told me that he was sensitive to the concussion related to hammering in the nails on the right front. I think he is foot sore. Sometimes hel'll ride with his head way down. I am thinking about rubber shoes. Maybe he doesn't like the harder surfaces in the north east as compared to the sand in Florida. I have photos of his feet but they are in an e-mail format. I would really appreciate your thoughts. Sorry for the length of this post.
