Perhaps injections of some substance to create resilliancy into the existing cushion might work better-- way over my pay grade though-- bar shoes, frog pads, equipak et al are more my speed.

Funny this came up the other day on the Doctors TV show they were talking about the use of stem cells for breast enlargement rather than silicone implants. They inject the stem cells and they actually grow by themselves. Maybe a possibility for the horses in the future.(digital cushion, not boobs).

Re: NPA radiographs

Thanks everyone. It was fun to do. Ron, can you post a pic of the jig you use to banana your shoes?
Justin I am glad he's doing good.

People make way too much of a problem of the fit. It's nothing. With an aluminum shoe just rasp the toe and include one or two strokes over the heels keeping the COA the highest part in the foot. You'll find that it's really easy to overdo the rasping of the toe, meaning the foot is banana'd more than the shoe. Rasp the highest spot (which should be directly underneath the COA) and you're done. With a steel shoe it's even easier. A few strokes with your rasp over the toe area and burn in the shoe. Be sure not to overdo the trim before you decide to burn a banana in the foot

Because the rasp is way less than you'd perhaps expect I can not show you a pic of a foot prepared for the banana that would show much. But just to make my point here's one I use explaining the banana fit. In fact it's a pic of a foot that I just took a banana off for a reset. If you look closely you'll see some banana shape in the ground side of the foot. Most of the roll is pushed in though because of the weight on the foot.

I added a pic of the jig I made as well, 'though I hardly ever use it. Some tapping a shoe over the hardy hole works just fine to get a banana shape in the shoe.

I know several podiatrists use this technology to promote healing. I'm not sure if it was ever tried to regain a digital cushion. But your analogy with women and silicone made me think of using silicone to replace or enhance the digital cushion
