I have been using Vettec soleGuard to build a good support for little hooves works really well stays on for about 3 weeks ..
saves glue ons ...I trim the heels down make a dam with playdoo and tape a wedge shape at the back of the hoof fill this area with the S-G and model it for a good standing area...leaves the dosal wall which can be resectioned if need whan abscesses are about...

John it looks like both a capsular and phalangeal rotation which can be hard to deal with. The tip of P3 is taking a beating which could indicate that this is an on-going problem.
Can the cause be determined and eliminated. You can try and re-align this but without taking the cause into effect it is an uphill battle.

If it is an acidosis founder, founderguard (Virginamycen) will eliminate future episodes
Could it be Cushings disease or a metabolic problem.

Is there a factory made Banana shoe ????

I haven't seen a mention in any of your posts.

Just to let you know:
Your presentation in this years conference
was my biggest single motivator to join the Co-op
and attend the conference.

Well frankly I need to get the presentation sorted out. I'm happy there is an interest in the banana shoe concept, but I would like to say right here and now that all that is important for us shoers is the mechanics of the shoeing concept. It's mnot about square toes, or long footed footed horses it's about the effect our shoeing has on the way a horse uses it's back.

I really hope I'll be able to get that across through my experience sofar.

And yes banana's are available premade, through nanric.com and grand circuit makes them too. But really you do not need those. Make your own. It's easy and cheap!

I think I saw somewhere you said the premade banana shoes have a flat foot surface, is that right? Also, ( not that I'm capable of doing it but) wouldn't it be more beneficial to make your own for a foundered hoof, in the case of being able to put the curve in the shoes exactly where you need it. Or do you find that they all come out curved about the same?

Because of the shoe itself and the support a shoe is supposed to give you don't have too much play. However when you make your own banana's you have more play than with a premade one. And yes factory banana's have a level foot side. Definetely a pro on a short foot!

Are you concerned with having the banana shoe centered around COA? In your pics sometimes it is and sometimes its not. When do you make the call that it is important?

It is always important. I try to center the belly of the roll of the banana directly underneath the COA. If at any one time I did not do that, that would have been a mistake on my part. (Or a misguiding image )
