I saw that video, it's about the du mbest thing I've seen someone do with an anvil. It's also about the ****est thing I've seen someone do with blackpowder.

They shoot an anvil every year at Anvil Brand Shoe Co. We place dollars w/ our names on them to bet where it will land. Loads of fun. There's more anvils than farriers anyway,got to do somethin' w/ the extras.

I've been using an anvil for its original intent for 46 years, and I have shot a few. I've been told that in the early days of our July 4th celebrations, there were no fireworks as we now know them. Therefore, much of the celebration, besides parades and picnics, was the shooting of anvils and the ringing of church bells. We used to have fun with the anvil shoot, even if we only sent one a few feet in the air. We tried to be as safe as we could. We used a longer "slow burning cannon fuse" than the one shown in the video.We stood back at least 100 feet to watch it blow.
There is a difference between being child like and childish. The giggling dude in the film is, well, whadda you think? It never entered our heads in the 60's and 70's to have contests to see how high an anvil could be sent. This is something fairly recent and is deserving of "St u p i d Videos." Another thing. The deep cavity in the base of the old anvil must have been machined in somehow. Sacrilege! http://www.turleyforge.com
