Howdy,

I will be hauling a horse to Montgomery Alabama this coming weekend. I am looking to find an overnight spot to stop where I can corral a horse somewhere near the Oklahoma City area, (or in the vicinity) on the I-40 Corridor.

Does anyone know of a motel/hotel with horse facilities, or an auction yard/rodeo grounds with corrals? I don't really need any facilities, I will just crash out in my trailer, but wanted to give the horse a good break and I will finish the trip on the 3rd night. The first leg of my trip will be to the Las Vegas area, which I know places to stay in that area. I just need some help out in the Oklahoma area.

P.M me with any information you have, and I will gladly appreciate it.

Thanks,
Trevor

Are you just dropping a horse off in Montgomery?

Trevor,

Call Lee Liles just outside Sulphur. He's about 8 miles northeast of Sulphur and owns a 'horseshoeing museum. I'm betting he can either put you up or knows someone close by that can. Check out his place while you're there!

Tell him the guy (me) next door to Bob Armstrong's museum in Bethel sent you.

Bryan,

I am dropping the horse in Talassee which is just N.E. of Montgomery. I'm just going to drop her off and boogie back towards home. My wife wanted to come along and couldn't, so if I take too much time getting home, or stop and see to many sights, I will probably be sleeping in the trailer when I get home too.... ;)

Mark,

I will look Mr. Liles up and see what info he has to offer. Thanks for the heads up on that. I may try to stop in and visit his museum if nothing else, and maybe a few supply stores along the way.

Thanks,

Trevor

I use to live in Norman, Ok which is just south of Oklahoma City. I kept my horses at Travis Ranch which is a really nice horse boarding place. Super nice people. Can't remember the blonde guys name that I use to deal with but the general number off the internet is 405-329-5661.

If you do stop at Lee Liles place, say hi for me too. I send him a hoofhammer I've been using for a long time. Lee collects hoof hammers and he sure ain't never seen the ones we use here.

What's different about your hammers Ron?

My wife is in Amsterdam this week on business.

Is there a local farrier's supply shop I can tell her to visit for me?

Howdy,

My trip is complete, and it sure was a long one. A little bit windy coming out of Texas and Utah, and quite snowy heading back from Wyoming, but nothing that I couldn't handle.

I'd like to extend a special 'Thank You' to Dusty Franklin, (5-Star Horseshoeing School) and his family for providing me overnight accomodations at their facilities. They have a superb Horseshoeing School, and I was allowed to watch and visit with many great people during an AFA Pre-Certification Clinic.

Bryan, sorry I wasn't able to hook up with you in the Montgomery area. I lost cell signal just as you called back and wasn't able to return your call for most of the day.

Have a good weekend.

Be glad, Trevor, that you're not in Eastern Wyoming today. Theoretically you can go south or sw from Laramie, but that's it. You could be holed up in a truck stop and I might not be able to do the 12 miles to town to have coffee with you.

I started the day (Thursday) just north of Dallas in Dacatur, Texas, and I planned to finish in Cheyenne, but I heard the weather was going to get nasty. I pushed on a little further and atleast wanted to make it over Elk Mountain. All the more I could stay awake for was Rawlins.

I woke up early Friday to about 8" of snow. The right lane of I-80 was clear, and most of the left lane was heavy slush. It was pretty slow going to about Red Desert, and then it was great. The snow and wind was pretty hard on fuel mileage, I got better mileage while loaded than when coming home empty.

I hope all is well out there. I have spent many a night and the next day stranded out there in Wyoming when the road were shut down. I quickly learned to keep the fuel tanks full and a few cans of Spaghetti O's under the bunk.

I did invite my roomates to help blow the driveway open. They didn't seem too eager to help.

As my Grandmother use to say when we crossed the state line.

"Welcome to Winderful Wyoming"

The one thing I don't miss about Wyoming is the wind.

Jack, you must be as tough as boot leather.

When it gets that cold I start shiverin' and shakin' like a 6 week old puppy dog poopin' chicken bones.

My hats off to you sir, but NOT in that weather!

Hang tough buddy.

Trevor, Welcome back. Glad you made the trip safe and sound.

Cheers,
Mark

Bradley,
At the end of a warm dry winter, moisture on my meadows - either solid or liquid - is something to smile about. I love it.

Everyone has their own thing., Ben. I left Wyoming a couple of times to escape this white stuff. Texas, Okla, Kansas - decided the white stuff suited me. I hate to be hot. Beautiful today, 50 degrees, no wind, blue skies, The snow's melting into the ground and the meadows will be green next week For me that's hard to beat.

Lydia and I laugh about meeting one fall evening in separate cars and realising that she had the heater on and I had the air conditioner running.

Jack, it's not that I don't like snow, I just don't miss it. I left MT for a woman, not to get away from the cold, but it's been a nice benefit.:D
