I have a 2 year old mare, that doesnt like her hooves messed with much. We got past that after about a 2 hour lesson, now she gives me her hooves when I need to clean them. I picked her front left one up to clean it and noticed a smell like rotten eggs, but I didnt see anything that looked like thrush. I have always heard thrush will be black, wet and will cause the frog to kind of flake away. Not knowing if it was thrush or not I went ahead and treated her with Kopertox. I was thinking maybe she is at an early stage of thrush. If not could it be a fungus and should I keep treating her with Kopertox?

For now all you need is a hoofpick and use it daily, so that your horse gets so used to you picking up it's feet without fighting. You will find out the thrush will disapear! Good Luck! Gary

most likely its thrush!!!thrush has a foul odor to it keeping the hoof cleaned with hoof pick, trimming will help.but from what i been told an used on thrush that kills it the best an its cheap to use is straight bleach. get a squirt bottle an do this a few times a week.clean the hoofs an squirt a bunch of bleach on the inside of their hoof hold it up for a min or soooooo let it soak set it back down.make sure your not doing this around there food or anything.
i wouldnt wear the best clothes for this treatment either.but this does really work
