I read with interest about the overreaching gelding.
My mare is 3 /12 Arab/draft. She is still growing, her rump is higher than her whithers again.
She has always had a great overstriding walk. Lately she has been stepping on her front heels.
My coach thinks it has much to do with her uneven growth and some to do with teenage awkwardness, trying to balance with a rider.
I paln to ride her a couple more weeks then give her a couple of months turn out. Is there a way I can trim her to help her not to step on herself?
I will try to take pics as described for the other post, hopefully i will figure out how to get them uploaded.

Since she is going through a growth spurt, the best thing to do is quite riding her. No matter how you trim her, if your trim is done correctly, she will continue to have some issues. A correct trim is one that trims the feet according to the dictates of her conformation. You should check out www.hopeforsoundness.com and read the trimming tutorial there. This is about as good a way as I have come across for performing a correct form to function trim.

Since neither of the breeds involved in your horse's lineage are known for their early development, IOW it takes either one up to the age of 5 or 6 to reach maturity, you are , IMNTBCHO riding this horse too soon. In addition to the growth spurt issues you are encountering, remember that the joints close from the ground up, meaning that the spine is the last to reach maturity. riding now will only cause a lot of problems later.
