Here is a pic of a pony that was barefoot behind. 1/6/09 the pony was flexed in both hinds and was 2/5 on both .. Hoof testers showed pain response in both toes also.
So the feet will show/indicate hock issues in most cases; here is one instance. Medial wall hemorrage, dubbed toes and lateral flare(s); IME(s):)

You can't even see the lateral wall on the right hind.

I'm so sorry guys. Jaye's post made me think about indicators in general. Not specifically the horse in Jaye's post. I was thinking about a horse I'm working on that has a lateral wall hemorrhage on just the right hind.
If the hemorrhage was lateral verses medial. What could that be indicating?

Well, either that the horse kicks the wall a lot or suffers fro a condition Jaye is trying to explain here.

Jaye are you sure the hock pain was not due to hoof imbalance, possibly a negative palmer angle, rather than the other way round? ;)

Jaye,
What are your short term and long term goals for shoeing the pony?
What is your shoeing protocol and do you anticipate changing it down the road?

Jaye, This morning while looking at an older barrel horse, back feet present with medial bruising, lateral flare, right hind slightly dubbed.
DX: Hocks are a wreck, right side worse.
Now we can argue all day which came first, the facts remain. Good place to start looking.
Good Thread Jaye.

Is the inbalance of the left hind hoof ,due to a condition in the hock causeing this pony to strick or knock the medial wall on the right hind with the heel or side of the left shoe ...??
ray.
Horses with light hoof colour ,show all ,what is with the darker hooves??

What did the pony's feet look like before the trimming/shoeing? side shots? sole shots? What is this pony's job? Would you see the same indicators if there were stifle issues? Were the hock issues lateral, medial or both? Injections done?

Pony has been barefooted for over a year; pony will kick a person not a wall. Saw the pony three years ago when vetted, lame on hock flexion LH. 1/6/09, lameness evaluation(previuosly noted), hocks injected.
this was an excercise in looking at details and an FYI; nothing more nothing less.:)
