Thanks Bill! I have been doing pretty good. Been making a few shoes and trying to work on the basics. Reading everything I can and have rode with a few farriers.

Looking for someone to apprentice under now. I just came in from the shop I was working on a used shoe billet. Forge welding is some tricky stuff. I am hoping to go to Heartland Horseshoeing School if I can ever get the money. I have gotten a lot of help with getting started from a lot of really good farriers. I would really like to be an apprentice for a good farrier for a few years before I go to school and for a while after I get back.

I checked the AFA site's find a farrier and found a few near me. I am going to give them a call after the holidays and see if any need some help or want to pass on their knowledge. I have been reading Butler's P3 book and I love it. I am hoping to get Adam's Lameness in Horses #5 soon. I have never been much of a reader but when it comes to reading about horses and farriery I cant get enough.

For now I am just working on basics soaking it up like a sponge. I intend to make this a life long obsession.

Matt, there ain't nothing to forge welding. Anybody who knows how can teach you the basics of welding in a coal or gas fire in about 30 minutes. Of course, you'll spend the next 40 years or so perfecting the basics - but meanwhile, your welds will stick.

As is common with us garrulous old pharts, I digress. :)

Happy Birthday - I don't envy you your youth, but I damn sure wish I had your enthusiasm. Merry Christmas - my best to you and yours.
