Ok,I hope I get this across right.I have a mare who has been lame on and off for 7 yrs.Foundered severly 2 yrs ago.We have been through farriers to no avail, shoes and such didn't help. One said to leave the shoes on for 12 weeks Umm this mares feet grow very fast needs a trim every six weeks well by 10 weeks I pulled those shoes off to find her heel had grow just awful so we endied up starting over again! Then I learned about the Natural balance trim.So we have been doing this our selves and had X-rays done .She is dropped and rotated {which I had already suspected}we have the tracings and trimmed her accordingly. Then shoed her with the EDSS system. She was fine for about 2 weeks with the small wedges then I noticed she was ouchy again and landing toe first so I took off the wedges and she's walking in a better position but very ouchy AGIAN.The problem I think is on the x-rays it showed she has changes to the navicular, boney spurs. Could that be causing this new problem. We really are at out wits end and need some help !!I could scan in the tracings and try to post them if that would help. The vets big help was saying boy she's just not comfortable anywhere she puts that foot. Not a lot of help !
Thanks

Take all her heels off, this will let her coffine bone be in a more natural position. Keep here trimed on a four week basics. Yhay might help

I can not see enough in your pictures to really tell anything. They got too compressed when you made them smaller. Try doing them again, leaving them a little bigger. The site wil ltell you if they are too big to up load Makethem JUST small enough to load .
It is difficult when a horse may need say wedges for the navicular but maybe does not like wedges for their particular state of laminitis.
There are many little things that can hel "dial in":These complicated cases. If she foundered severely and has changes in the navicular bone it is unlikey she will go well barefoot. Possible, but unlikely. It depends on too many factors that can not really be evaluted by a few pictures. Recent X-rays or good copies are needed, as well as video of her moving and a close up look at her feet would help.
AS to trimming all the heels (and frequently) as the last person suggested, NB protocols do NOT just arbitrarily trim "all the heel" . Nor does it recommend too-frequent trimming. Foundered feet need to grow SOLE under that bone. There are very specific guidelines for trimming as shown in the NB videos that addresses the amount of deep flexor tendon tension based on following the sole plane as well as evaluating how the foot lands. NEVER trim so much heel that the horse is left landing toe first, unless the trim is in preperation for a shoeing where you can adjust wedging on the shoes to get back to a heel first landing when you are done.
There are a lot of litle things in "dialing in" an EDSS on any horse, let alone one with possibly conflicting problems. I suggest you have the farrier (or yourself if it is you doing the system) contact the people at EDSS directly for some extra help.
