Howdy,

I don't know if I was told about this by a mentor that I had, or by one of the older and much wiser Gents here on the Forums.

I remember vaguely a story about a shoer wrecking a truck (rear-ended another vehicle).....It wasn't the accident that killed him, it was the ANVIL coming through the back of his cab and subsequently killing him.

With the snowy and icy roads soon approaching, along with any other day as well, we are all subject to getting into accidents. The last thing I would want is the Horn of my Future 4 widowing my wife.

I've had this installed in my truck for a few years now, and while cleaning it out today came up with a safety suggestion.

As pictured, I welded 1" Square stock to a flat plate, drilled a hole and pinned it below my Hardy Hole. The off end is tethered to an anchor point in the corner of my bed. If my truck happens to be wrecked, or roll over, it only has about a 2' distance that it can travel.

Be Safe,

Trevor

Good setup Trevor. Mine slides into some channels that hold the base. I had one of the older farriers at a meeting tell me how he had been after his son to tie his anvil down. One day the boy slid off the road and hit a tree. Luckily he was sliding sideways and the anvil went thru the side of the bed. No one hurt, but a great demo of what might have happened. The new rig had an anvil tiedown right away.

My anvil sits in a slide out tray in a box under the back of the truck. Its at the same height as my stand, so I just slide the tray out and transfer the anvil to the stand (and vice versa when loading up)with little to no lifting. The anvil is totally isolated from the passenger compartment of my truck.

Here's my setup. Hollow core mounted on a swivel hitch. Only have to remove it when I'm hauling horses.....

Funny thing.... no one tail gates me anymore..!! :D

I like the fact that I don't have to pick the da*Mn thing twice at every stop.. Its just there...

Sure has saved my back and its less work..

Still have clients ask .. That just sits there?? Yup I reply :D

I bolted to large aluminum double angle pieces to the bed of my trailer. I slide the anvil base under those. works very well.
