What's going on with this foot?

This is a left front foot on a 17-20 year old thoroughbred. The right looks very similar. I've never seen a sole breaking here. PIII? Any ideas greatly appreciated.

All I see is maybe a little sole crack or just a flake of dead sole?? ...can't see enough to say much. More information is needed. Is this the first time you have seen him? Is he lame ? Sound?
If he is sound, I would not worry too much about the little 'dent' down the center of the sole at the toe, if that is your concern. The horse may have an exaggerated "crenna" in his coffin bone.

He does have a good shape to his foot. I was just wondering about the sole crack. I don't think he's ever had any issues with lameness and he's got none now. I've been to see him a few times over about six months.
