I have a 3 week old foal, this is the first foal for this mare and one of many foals for the stallion.. Both mare and stallion are of extremely good quality. The foal appears to have a problem with his hind legs from the hocks down. I initally thought is was carpal vargus (of the hind legs) upon further looking I think he is what you describe as cow hocked. My question is .. at three weeks of age should I be correctively treating his hoofs to help correct the problem, should I wait while he grows a bit? What is the general recommened treatment .

Thanks for your time

In general, It is perfectly normal for most foals (and most sound mature horses) to be somewhat cow hocked. Unless there is a serious deformity in or below the fetlock, don't sweat it.
However I would simply advise your vet and farrier of your concerns , since we can't actually see the foal.

Thanks so much to both of you for the information. .. I have some great pics of the foal from behind and front. I saw how to post pics earlier on the site and now I cannot find the link with the websites to post pics. Does anyone remember and I will post a pic of this foal

Thanks
