History - 16 yr old TB mare with hock arthritis right hind. 2003 mare started hitting/interfering on hinds on both pasterns with farrier change. Toe too long and heels to short. Switched to farrier specializing in corrective. Takes toe way back, rolls toe, puts on egg bars, sets shoe very slightly to the outside (instead of trailer). This works for 6 years. Never another problem.

Now - Switched barns and had to switch farriers as corrective one too busy to take on one horse at barn out of service area...no problem...understood completely.

New farrier does great job with everything except mare now hits herself again. I am not farrier so cannot help him get it right. I tell him to take toe way back and set shoe over a little. It doesn't work and I don't know what else to do as mare is now bleeding at both pasterns, dragging toes and cannot trot properly. I suggest we bring old farrier in to shoe once, and then new farrier can see the way it was done. New farrier shouldn't have to reinvent the wheel. Yet both farriers are reluctant to do this!!! Is it an ego thing? What's the deal?

Anyhow...any suggestions on what we can do? Is it a balance thing?
I can take photos for posting for tomorrow.

Thanks.

I would just request that new farrier contact old farrier (on the phone). I would suspect that old farrier can give him the recipe that works for this horse.

Yes...that was done. He told him to do the same thing....toes back/rolled etc. But I just think that they may have different techniques. It took my first corrective farrier a month to figure it out, so there has to be something more that maybe can't be communicated via phone. Thanks for response though.
