I've always hit it hard, done as much as I can for as long as i can...sometimes i forget to just relax and recharge (not been on a vacation in five years...just foolish on my part) My son begged me to go to the alleghenies and trout fish with his pappa (my dad) over the holiday weekend). I came home and R/S all my booked full saturdays workin hard is fine but working too hard all the time breaks down your body, pschye and robs you off the joy or our work. We should all keep tht in mind... and I owe my son some thanks.

Good for you and your family Jason! One of the perks of this profession is that you can schedule your time. I raised my son alone for 9 yrs after I got primary custody in the divorce suit. Best thing in the world for me! I was able to be at every practice and game my son played in. We also were able to ride on the weekends and fish anytime we liked. I bought a used boat and on hot days in the summer when it is unhealthy to be shoeing, we were out on the water where is was about 20 degrees cooler! Did ya catch enough to make a mess?

I always take a week in the begining of OCt. every year to drive up to upstate NY with my dad and older brother and 24 ft. camper in tow to salmon fish. Keeps me sane. Nothing like standing in a river hauling in big ol hoss of a salmon on a light fly rod.

Jason, while my wife was alive I worked 24/7 it seemed.
When Cindy passed away I worked even more and harder until my system started to break down.
I had never been hurt real bad before. Now I am nursing a sore back last two weeks from eing stpid.
I have started to taking 2 days a week for myself.
I also love to fish and honestly can't recall the last time I went.
I am cutting back my mileage and my workload.
I am glad to see you younger folks are taking advantage of time for yourselves and your families. Good for you.
my 2 cents worth ;)

I realized that my old "business plan" of do as many as I can for as much as i can is no longer working---3100 in feul, supplies, tires and truck last month and working like a fiend. I've started focusing on where I actually make money that I get to keep not just hand over to someone else to pay for going to work. reducing mileage, parked my beautiful trailer and quit doing anuthing for free should give me some time and net the same as I was... thats the plan.!;)
Fresh Trout sure taste better than McD's snagged at 8;00 pm on the way home!

Good on ya, Jason. Your 1000 miles per week has been worrying me. I once talked to a professional truck driver who said he only did about 2000 miles per week. 115,000 miles was his best year.

My poor truck was two years old on may 12th-- it has 100,780 miles on it at the end of today--- At that rate I'll have 250,000 on it at five years... I've got a plan!:D

4 -4 1/2 days a week and always home by 5:00(absolutlely no weekends)....usually about 100 miles/day, but some days only 10 or so....Allows me to fish, see my wife and daughter and do whatever else I need to.....By Thursday evening and 30-40 horses, I like a break. Hope your plan works Jason...thisworks for me!

One of my best childhood memories was fishing with my Dad and brothers. My daughters loved it when they were little and didn't think worms were gross, now they won't touch a fish.
Part of my design in my trailer is a compartment for a couple of poles, tackle box, lawn chair and cooler. :D

Take the advise given and take some time out...as with any job...burn out can occour
we rode the river almost daily, all seasons...I still have the colt who is 26 years old, and still swam him last year
My son, at 8 years old received a Master Angler patch from the DNR for this 27 " 6lb large mouth bass, caught one a bit larger the week after, and of coarse his proud mom taught him to fish with a Mickey Mouse bobber:D
Enjoy them while they are young:)
as ever
