A friend of mine is a cabinet maker. We had spent some time discussing ideas for a new shoe rack for my trailer.
Yesterday, my friend shows up with this.
Racks can be removed/added/modified via adjustable cleats which lock into the frame. Bottom drawer is 12" deep and sits on 150 pound sliders. He had asked for an old shoe to use for getting the distances right during construction. He cleaned the shoe up, painted it and used it for a pull handle on the drawer.
Drawer front is mahogany; cabinet and racks are pine; installed cleats are oak for strength.
48" tall; 36" wide. Tossed a couple shoes on it for photo. I'll add a means of separating shoes and may add a piece of light carpet to the back of each rack to reduce noise and shifting.
Thought I'd share.

Thats gorgeous. Is it bolted or attached somehow to the trailer so it doesn't tip over?

Not yet, but it will be before I'm done. There's a rail in the top rear of the cabinet that I'll run sheet metal screws thru to lock it down. Will also attach a small, L-shaped bracket at the floor... back corner of each side.
The trailer has a convex shape to the front wall. The fellow that made this for me even took time to shape the top/bottom of the cabinet so it fits flush into the wall.
I train a horse for his daughter and had provided a pro bono horsemanship clinic in my arena last week. This was his way of saying 'thanks'. Heck of a deal, huh?
I only recently bought the trailer and am in the process of moving all my equipment/benches into it. He noticed the new tile floor I had installed and thought a nice shoe rack would work well.
Claims he made it out of "a few odds and ends" laying around his workshop. He built the whole thing in about 2 hours.
There's nice folks roaming this planet of ours, huh?
Anyway, I thought it was exceptionally nice and wanted to share the photo with others.
Cheers,
Mark

That's really nice looking. Instantly gave me ideas for a tack cabinet built-in for the barn. Thanks for sharing!

Hey Mark that is nice. What a nice thing for your friend to do.
Are you building a shoeing trailer also? I'm haveing a blast working on mine about a third of the way done. Will be nice to work out of when it is done.

That looks almost too good to put shoes on. Great to have friends who are handy with tools.

Yep, the guy has become a good friend and is certainly handy with his woodworking tools. Met him last year when he was looking for a trainer to help his daughter along. Great kid with lots of the right kind of attitude.
Hi Phil. Yep, putting together a new trailer. It was something I was overdue to get done. Thought I'd have this thing finished in a week or two at most. No chance... taking longer than I expected. The investment in time will be worth it when I'm finished though.
I knew you were working on a new trailer as well. Hope that project is going well for you. If you're like me, the really tough part is finding time to work on it!
Thanks for the compliments on the rack guys. I'll pass the good thoughts on to the maker. I'm sure he'll appreciate it.
Cheers,
Mark
