Hadn't posted a new mess in a while so here's some pics of a 8 yr.old Warmblood Jumper that: Quote "Hasn't been lame in a year".
Yeah right!

The horse had thrush so bad the only option was to replace the #4 eggbars and Equipak with #5 Eggbars and a 2 degree wedge rim pad. Frog support is need but the thrush was so bad that no pressure could be applied. :(

Jaye, where did you place the breakover of the new (size 5) shoes relative to the end of the coffin bone? If this were my case, seeing that breakover point so far forward I would be moving it back about where the existing first nails were, or even futher.
I used to do a lot of them just like that in California for a vet who insisted on egg bars for nearly everything but never specified anything else.
So what I did was completely reshape the toe of the egg bar shoes (blunting, widening and rolling the front edge)and then place breakover where I wanted it. On this horse that would be it back where the first nails were. I found that the heels and frog never got better until the toe was brought back. (and the toe corners brought in)

Doing it that way the #4 shoes might have still fit because they would be pulled back under the foot . Not trying to make trouble....Just throwing out something technical to discuss.

This guy is a mess. I reworked the #4 with a bolder toe but the length just wasn't there. I rolled the toe and the heels because of the joint(s) displacements. He needs his coffin joints done and was a candidaye for a hidden bar and wedge ,but hoof tester palpation showed lack of tolerance for any frog pressure what so ever. Thrush is very invasive in the RF.

Did just that and Toe Lopped about 3/4" of dead toe wall off. Also dealing with 2 medial corns and as of today I was told he was laminitic just over a year ago. With these types of x-rays th coffin joints are so imfalmed they need to be done first, but no help from attending vet on this one it will be 30 days before I can effect a proper change.

I needed the length and the jumper was medial heel(s) sore. I saw the horse go today @ 10:30 am, looked great for a cripple, slight grade 1 in circles under saddle both ways. No trouble here just another day at the office. Want to come and play?

Sure I'd come play but the phone is finally begining to ring some after a cold winter. Cant take the time off now as it should get real busy by next week. Happens here in more rural (cheapskate owners) Colorado every year.
Ya know.... with the decent shoeing now this horse may not even need the joints injected.
He looked out of balance M/L on the rads , (corns confirming that too) along with the long breakoer point all that would be a direct cause of the coffin joint soreness (and impar ligament pain too ,hence the lack of tolerance to pressure on the frog).
Doing everything you described along with rebalancing the foot so the coffin bone is level to the ground ML should help him a ton.
You will look like a hero in three weeks as the inflammation subsides.
For any novices or owners out there who may wonder where I see the medial lateral imbalance without an AP(front on) Xray , look at the bottom of the coffin bone AND the shoe on the Xray. BOTH should appear exactly level, but in those Xrays the bone looks level while the shoe is tilted. Therefore the bone is not parallell with the shoe, but the Xray beam was tilted just enough to make it appear the bone is level to the ground . It isn't. The shoe is.

Well the invite is always open. The people leased the horse for 30 days-$6k  , after the second set of shoes a determination to buy will be made, per the vet.

He toes in hard, with long toes and joint(s) pain and Thrush. And ac***alative effect(s) of long show season in Florida.

I have enough hero badges to last me a life time, new owners or Non-horse persons have the same mentalityy as our society- "it's not happening soon enough suit us, we want it fixed yesterday". That's why they are charged to the maxium with no guarantees. :D
