Have a complex problem. Started with severe fence injury to front foot on pregnant mare. When finally home from vet, put support shoe on other front to help prevent stress founder....diagnosed w/founder in January, vet said nothing could be done til after she foals. Feb I was galvanized by The Cushings List for XRays/styrofoam pads. Due to delay in starting help, support foot has 10* rotation, injured foot "ok" for now. Trimmed Mar. 5 and left barefoot. Farrier didn't leave bars level, and also pared out sole at coffin bone - which I understand should have been left for padding. Two days ago I rasped appx. 1/4" off heel area (from apex back) rounding the edges.
Mare foaled last Friday, she was been incredibly mobile for 4 days, now 3-legged favoring injured foot. Mare being looked at on Friday, will XRay the injured foot to see if it's starting to founder after all this time.
Anyway - not sure what needs to be posted and what not - but do need to know if there are any NB farriers in the Missoula MT area to handle the individual problems of this mare's front feet
