Hi there. a brief bit about me so you do indeed know i am not bluffing etc. I work at a sanctuary where i work with behavioural issues in equines. i am also the nest pair of eyes there as the owner has damaged corneas. I arrived this morning to find a pony "down" in the field. we got her up and brought her in. noting that she was crippled lame on her off hind. Washing off the legs (so we could actually see them) showed on one of the other three that she has had previous abcess' that have come out at coronary band level. I get to her back feet and she has a VERY broken pastern hoof angle. the coronary band looks like it has been pushed forwards. Would rotation (obviously severe) cause this to happen? also the offside hind that is sooo lame has a red spot, probably an abcess about to burst out again just below the coronary band and the coronary band on that foot is coming away from the hoof wall. the sounder foot the coronary band has already come away from the hoof wall and it looks like a shoe that's too big for a child. I am terrified that it will just slip off in the mud????? This could be construed as not being for the laminitis section, but i truely think that this pushing forward of the top of the hoof is caused by rotation of the pedal bone, please correct me if i am drastically wrong and feel free to move this post to the most appropriate section. whatever happens is there anything that can be done for this pony's seperating feet?

call a vet

Absolutely, call a vet if you haven't yet. They will be able to tell you with more authority what might be happening here.

With severe founder cases, the hooves can in fact slough off. It seems unusual it would do so this suddenly, but you really need some veterinary help for this, and an excellent farrier to help you rehabilitate afterward, whatever the reason the hoof is doing this.

Can you get the pony inside, somewhere dry, until you can figure out what is happening here?
