I just received the results of an MRI done on my 6yr old Appendix AQHA.
There are as follows:
Findings
Left Fore
1. There is increased fluid within the medullary cavity of the navicular bone, and focal significant ac***ulation at the level of the attachment of the impar ligament to the navicular bone. Evidence of FCE.
2. There is focal fluid in P3 at the level of the attachment of the impar ligament to the coffin bone.
3. There is signifcant degenerative change to the distal border of the navicular bone. A small cyst can be identified. The flexor surface of the navicular bone also has focal increased fluid ac***ulation, and adhesions to the DDFT.
4. There is increased signal present within the CSL, lateral aspect, (torn adhesion?)
5. There is evidence of proliferative bursitis, and tissue proliferation/adhesion formation between bursa, CSL, and DDFT.
6. There is enthesophyte formation at the origins and insertions of the CLs bilaterally.
7. Chronic diffuse degenerative change is present in the DDFT proximal to the navicular bone. Adhesions are present to the surrounding soft tissues.
8. The impar ligament has abnormal signal and adhesions are present betweeb the IL, DDFT, navicular bonem and bursa.
9. Chronic synovitis.
My vet's short response was she tore her impar ligament at both ends. He didn't say more than that but did mention there was more in the report, so when I recevied this report today I was overwhelmed at it's length and terminology.
Can someone decipher this report and help me understand line by line what this means?
I'm pretty sure this mare's career is over, but my vet says he see's this as a glass half full situation and she's young.
I love to hear your thoughts about her future as a performance horse or a broodmare.
She currently is turned out daily/stalled nightly and is on aspirin/MSM daily. She's in a bar shoe with a 2 degree wedge and a soft pour. She doesn't grow much heel and her toe was taken back as much as possible with the show set back.
A month before the MRI, it was determined through digital radiographs that both front feet had negative coffin angles. They appear exactly parallel to the ground, and are level laterally. Coffin bones match. The foot in question is a club foot.
Thanks ahead of time for your help!
