I was given a horse yesterday (a freebie) as a babysitter for a foal I own. This poor guy is a mess.Really super nice QH gelding who obviously has had an unbelievable amount of training.Just an all round "good egg" type of guy.Now the scary part, the person who gave him to me says he has navicular, worse in the left than the right and an old, small injury to his right front. When she bought the horse he was drugged and the foot was covered with bondo and sanded and all his feet painted black. When I arrived there the small, old injury was interesting.Apparently he stuck his foot through a wire fence and pulled back. The scarring looks like he pretty much ripped off the back of his heel bulbs/foot.It healed and he now has no frog to speak of (I can't find it) and some gruesome scarring of his hoof. Also,I believe his heel is sheared in this foot as his inside (medial???) bulb is jammed up towards his ankle. He arrived at my house with an egg bar shoe on the left, barefoot on the right and way overdue for some foot care.I pulled the bar shoe as it had no pad or borium and the poor guy was walking on about 7 inches of balled snow.I trimmed both feet the best I could( he was clearly uncomfortable standing on one foot even with banamine given. It looked like a kindergardener has been trimming his feet.It was horrifying.Such an injustice has been done to this nice boy.He has been used an abused.I would like to keep him comfortable. If not,I will put him down.I can't watch him suffer.I would like to post X-rays.I am having new ones taken to compare with the ones taken a few years ago.How do I go about posting x-rays here? I will also take some photos later today and post them.I would like any comments/advice you could give. Thanks!! ~Karen

Also, depending on what the x-rays reveal,I would like to know about nerving.I always thought it was a pretty horrible thing to do to a riding horse but since this one is a pasture pal only, tell me the good, the bad,and the ugly of nerving a horse to keep him pasture sound.
