Back in October, my 6yr old gelding stepped on a nail. The nail went in at an angle through the frog. Fortunately, after many x-rays it was determined that he did NOT do any damage to the synovial structure. He was put on oral antibiotics and topical (that I had to inject into the nail hole). His hoof was kept wrapped and cleaned daily. An abscess developed quickly and ended up blowing out the back of his hoof. Eventually, the frog completely fell off.
The frog has been growing back (slowly it seems) but along with that is where I'm concerned. I'll describe it the best I can. In the same side of the frog where the nail went in, there is a big lump of tissue. It's very soft and "gushy" and tissue where it shouldn't be. It's slightly painful to the touch and he's walking tippy toe here and there.
Any idea what the growth of tissue is? How should I be treating it now?
Thanks! :)
