Hello,

I would like to ask a little help from you veteran shoers out there....

To make a long story short, I most likely will not be able to make a full time living shoeing horses any more due to physical limitations. However, I am enrolled at a Purdue extension in Fort Wayne, IN. I would really like to get into research, particularly of the equine variety as it relates to farriery. I have been told numerous different things as far as a degree path and I need some advice before I spend too much more time and money to get where I want to be.

I have been told that I can get a BS in Biology and a masters in Eq. Physiology, I have been told that I can major in Biotechnology. I was told by a vet that I MUST be a vet to do any real research on horses at all.....and I have been told that I need no education what so ever (the latter 2 I do not necessarily agree with)

My reasoning behind my choice is that I feel that our industry is in desperate need of quality research and I want to continue to contribute as best as I can.

I had Rich Evan's email address at one time and I have misplaced it, I was told he would be a good contact.

Any advice?

Thanks!

A.P.

Depends on what kind of research you want to do. We all have something to offer, just based on experience and observations.

I would like to get into researching biomolecular dffects of nutrition in the feet as well as shoeing techniques, problems in locomotion, basically anything from the shoulder and hip down to the feet.

HannaElise-- Thanks for sending me Rich Evans email, as well as the other information!!
