I am a new horse owner and I just got her hooves trimmed yesterday and I was picking them out today and I noticed that her frog looked like it had been cut or something. Do you think that the farrier accidentally cut her frog? if so what do I do about it? Do I need to get it checked out by a vet or will it heal on its own?

Trimming of the frog is normal, but too much cut off can cause problems ,but rarely do. If your horse isn't lame then there is no problem. Talk with your farrier next trim and ask questions and watch him or her trim and you will understand better. Good Luck! Gary

The frog does shed on its own so I wouldn't worry about it. Gary

Have you called your Farrier and ask them about it? Post some photos and we could see and make a suggestion.

hey to all,

What is the growth rate for a frog that has been cut away (injured) by something in the pasture. The frog cutaway is app. 1/2 in lenght by 3/8 or so.
