Has anyone tried the Billy Crothers concave? I really like the stuff, but am a little put off by the race plate nail patternon these shoes. Victory started punching the Elites like that, and I just cringe every time I look at them. If the rest of the shoe is top notch, I could overlook the 95 nail holes per branch!

Jason,

Why the cringe over more than the standard 4-5 holes?

I have never personally used them. I ordered 1 pair each of 3 different sizes a while back to try when they became available through our normal supplier, but had to grin when I opened the shipment as I did not realize the were of Europian sizing standards. Not a single pair was larger than a 4-0. Needless to say, not a pair of these has more than 3 nailholes per branch. The supplier was not aware of this either and gave me credit for them and shipped me 3 different sections of concave stock and we build our own now! :)

The race plate pattern offends my delicate sense of style! :D On a bigger foot i like to drive four to the lateral and three to the medial, with the multi-punched shoe, I cannot find a pattern that works for this and looks correct, or does not have two nails right on top of one another. Oh well , adapt and overcome.
Thanks,
Jason

I haven't used any either, but I know exactly where you're coming from with the nail hole thing. Those aluminum that Kerchart makes drive me insane. Three nail holes in the toe quarter right on top of each other, and then three in the quarters right on top of each other. What's up with that? Give me three nail holes punched nice and and then if I need more holes let me punch them. You drive nails in those shoes and you've got clinches on top of each other it seems. Then the next time you shoe the horse you have to change nail holes around to get around the old nail holes that are the size of two nails now. I hate them. I bought as many of the old style Kerkhart alum. shoes as I could when I found out they were gonna stop making them.
it's a sad sad day in the shoein' world
on the other hand I have a snow day today :D

Awwwhhh, Stop your whinning!
Take a 9/64th or a #29 wire drill bit and drill some more holes. I'll see if I can find you some more "Old Style" shoes. :D :D :D

Play nice with others now Jaye. I almost forgot I bought all of those old Kerckarts that GFS had when I was down there. Well if they get any more let me know. I don't mind drilling nail holes I just like my shoes to be as pretty as they are functional.

Look at me. I haven’t posted here in over 2 years and now I’m like some kind of crank addict.
Anyway, I have this love hate relationship with the BC shoes, but I love the fronts more than I hate the hinds. My big problem with the hinds is that the toe rolled. Look If I have a problem with a horse getting purchase behind, the last thing I want is a rolled toe (I know I know there are exceptions to every rule and I shoe 2 of them). At any rate, Jase I got over the nail hole thing by just driving every other nail, from about the fourteenth nail from the back (I got that problem too) but on some of the TB hunters I shoe, I need those extra holes.
I love the 3/8 shoes. I don’t know what else to say at this point except I think they are very nice shoes when applied in the appropriate situation and beats the heck out of having to make your own. :)
