Having never attended the summit or the convention, I'm thinking about going to one or the other this year.

Which one would you recommend would be the best for a new farrier as well as the best for the bucks?

This is almost like asking a condemned man whether he'd rather be shot or hanged. :o

There are advantages to both. If you want to watch competition forging, then the only choice is the AFA convention. Also, the convention speaker line up this year looks to be rather impressive. Problem is that you'll have to choose between watching the forging or attending certain lectures.

The Summit is all about learning, no forging or the like. It is pretty non-stop and really packs a whollop. It too has an impressive array of speakers.

The Trade Show at either is wonderful.

This year, I'm going to both. If I had to choose one or the other, I'm not sure which way I would lean. If finances were a major concern, then I'd have to admit I'd choose the Summit because it is a five hour drive from home for me, as opposed to a plane ride to NM.

In 2008, I'll do both again especially since they are both within driving distance for me.

Finding the time to attend both, well, that's going to be interesting.
