I am looking for advice on what type of notebook that would work best for the shoeing buisness-
ALso I know back in some issue of the farriers journal there was an article on what type of software to use-

Dell, Sony, HP and Compaq are all good. There are alot of specials right now for the holidays. I just went through this process with my daughter. We bought her a new notebook. The sales rep told me that new notbooks are pretty rugged and built to be mobile. However there are notbooks that are specificly built for mobility and buisnesses. Here is a good place to start looking, http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/prodserv/notebooks_tabletpcs.html

I personally use a dell laptop. I run windows XP Pro and it does everything you could ever want. I'm a big gamer so I have several loaded into for those times that I just have sit around and wait. I also keep lots of horse and foot pics that I can share w/ clients in order to get a point across if needed. The software program "Forge Ahead" is really a great program. It has all types of features so it caters to everyone no matter what you need w/in a program. You can also take pics of owners horses and then make a file w/ all of their pics, xrays and etc and its much more manageable. You can set up your notebook and a small printer and print all your reciepts and even use the software to keep up w/ all of your inventory... Well good luck......
http://www.farriersoftware.com/ you can go here and download a demo and try it out........

I did computer work for a bunch of years. I still do it on the side, in fact I have 3 laptops inthe other room awaiting parts. I would definatly recomend DELL as I never see them to get repaired. I am useign a dell laptop right now. The Inspiron series is good. Anyone can repair them too becuase all the parts just slide out of slots. They are all pretty much like thta these days. But dell is a good machine. Invest in a keyboard and screen cover if your going on the road. Dust from barns and a little funk on your fingers can get into the keyboard and mess things up. A car charger and a good case would be good idea too.

I have one thing to say. I spent one year in the Kuwait/Iraq desert (Feb 03 - Feb 04)with a dell laptop. It was still working when I returned.

Thanks for your service as well.
We I went to Quatar right after 9/11 to buld a Bare Base we took MICRON Lap tops. They did not stand up well at all. We purchased dells while there and the held up well. Don't know what model though, but I don't think you can go wrong with dell.
What did you do in the gaurd. I was a Civil Engineer troop.

Hi Gary I was in Combat Communications for the first 15 years then ended up in Base support Communications until I retired. I was also on the ADVON Team and trained with CE to setup Bare Bases. I miss it and had some good times with CE.

The model was a Dell Latitude. It worked very well. One thing I would recommend is canned air, or just use an air compressor to blow it out once in a while. This added life.
