Hey ..I had an awesome farrier do my horses feet when I was on vacation ..sadly he lives in Kamloops while I live in Langley. He did natural trims and balancing for horses. My horse is barefoot and we are having lots of problems at the moment with her feet.
Here are some things we are having
Flaring ..causing brusing
Soft feet..causing mutiplte bruises on each foot.
Feet wont harden up.. does anyone have suggestions
Boots dont fit well.. any suggestions on boots
Curved heels
Chafing that causes hair not to grow back..Anything I can put on that..
I really need some help if anyone has any suggestion PLEASE tell me and I also would like to find a good farrier to do my horse.
Thanks

Here are some succinct suggestions in answer to your litany of woe:
Flaring ..causing brusing
Shoes, possibly in conjunction with pads.
Soft feet..causing mutiplte bruises on each foot.
Shoes, possibly in conjunction with pads and a sole toughener.
Feet wont harden up.. does anyone have suggestions
Keep the feet dry.
Boots dont fit well.. any suggestions on boots
Boots are not a viable substitute for shoes and it appears your horse needs shoes. In the practice of good husbandry, a horse's needs trump an owner's wants.
Curved heels
Acme bone wrench with the soft tissue attachment.
Chafing that causes hair not to grow back..Anything I can put on that.
Lose the boots, stop the rubbing.
I really need some help if anyone has any suggestion PLEASE tell me and I also would like to find a good farrier to do my horse.

Here are some things we are having
Flaring ..causing brusing Improper trimming (either inadequate or too much sole pared out in the toe area) or inherently weak feet that need shoes. , ,..causing mutiplte bruises on each foot. remedy is probably Shoes. Feet wont harden up.. does anyone have suggestions Ditto Tom. Dry them out any way you can. There are chenmical hardners you can pain on the soles such as racetrack "sole freeze" or "venice turpentine", or 7%iodine. be very careful to not get the sole freeze or iodine on skin or in eyes, it is very caustic.
Or,she may have inherently thin soles that are not suitable to be barefoot even if they are dried out and toughened. Some horses just can't do it.
Boots dont fit well.. any suggestions on boots If she has feet that won't take boots well you may have to consider shoes. Curved heels Improper trimming.
Chafing that causes hair not to grow back..Anything I can put on that.. Nothing you can do about that , if the boots arent going to fit her well. Apparently you have already tried various brands of boots ? Some are more adaptable to foot shapes than others.
I really need some help if anyone has any suggestion PLEASE tell me and I also would like to find a good farrier to do my horse. If yoyu want a farrier trained in natural footcare who can also shoe following a more natural protocol, then check with EDSS inc for a referral to a natural balance farrier in your area. The website has a list. www.NBHoofcare.com .

I doubt that Bob will travel to Langley but I could be mistaken. I am doing a clinic with him this weekend and I'll ask him what area he is still accepting clients in, if at all. I kinda think he is down to only working with a small number of clients because he's on the road a lot and doing the clinics.
Funny thing around BC is that most horse owners and many of the farriers don't even know who Bob Marshall is. Probably the only reason I do is that I heard about him when I still lived in Ontario. :)
In the Langley area you have a lot of farriers to choose from but I don't know how many will do NB but you might want to give a call to Ian Ritchie, or Lara Kearney (sp?) or better yet, come to the Western Canadian Farriers Conference October 13,14, 15 (I highly recommend the Saturday lectures in particular to my clients) and make some contacts with the BC farriers who are interested in knowing what is new in the industry.
Since you are in Langley, I'll wager a guess and ask if your horse is on hogfuel?

Do you have any information or contact information on this conference? I looked up some information on the internet and tried to send an email, but it came back as undelivered.
Thanks

Sorry, I lost track of this thread. The website is www.wcfa.ca and you should find the information you need there. You could also call Rick Higginson at 604-858-6715
I talked with Bob and he is accepting new clients and does have horses to do in Langley so you could try giving him a call. His number is 604-860-4826 (I think) or his e-mail (not sure how often they check it as Adrienne mentioned needing something fixed on the computer but you could still try) optimum@uniserve.com
