Ill start from the begining. Last year in November I purchased a 3 (now 4) year old chestnut mare. She was already started understaddle so we have been under-going training. Recently, in June, she went lame. The vet was called and we found out she had a broken axis in her front left hoof, and white line disease, thus weakening the hoof wall. The axis was corrected with heart bar shoes, with vet and ferrier working together. She had a week of walk, and we went back up to regular work. Our regular work consists of walk, trot, canter, collections, extentions, leg yeilds, and sometimes various other movements. However since her lameness I havent been doing anything other than what I have listed.
So today when I got on to ride, she was lame again in her front left. There was a storm last night, and Im hopeing/wondering if that could have stressed her hoof as she is quite a spooker, esp. in storms.
My last thoughts, can horses with broken axis' compete in dressage, or is it too much stress? And is there anything I can do to help fix it?
Thanks.
